Support students and staff by fostering a fully inclusive and accessible learning environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. This opportunity values your expertise in both interpreting and teaching American Sign Language (ASL), ensuring that every voice is heard and every lesson is accessible.
Qualifications & Experience Desired:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Prior experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter or as an ASL teacher, preferably in a school environment Ability to facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and hearing peers and staff Knowledge of interpreter ethics and confidentiality practices in educational settings Current license or certification as required by state or local guidelines Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit Flexibility to adapt communication styles for different ages and learning needs
Responsibilities Include:
Providing real-time sign language interpretation during classroom instruction, assemblies, parent meetings, and school events Assisting in lesson delivery for students learning American Sign Language, supporting their linguistic and cultural growth Collaborating with teachers, special education staff, and administration to ensure academic and social inclusion Helping to modify classroom materials and communication strategies as needed for accessibility Offering support and education about Deaf culture and effective communication techniques to staff and students Maintaining accurate records of services provided, in accordance with confidentiality practices Experience a dynamic contract position where your sign language expertise shapes inclusive educational experiences.
