Job Description

Job Summary Join our vibrant and dedicated team as a Lighting Designer/Operator for a passionate nonprofit children's theater. In this dynamic role, you will bring magical stories to life through creative and effective lighting design, ensuring each production captivates young audiences and inspires performers. You will collaborate closely with directors, stage managers, and technical staff to craft immersive visual experiences that enhance storytelling and elevate the overall theatrical experience. Duties Develop detailed lighting designs that complement the director's vision and enhance storytelling for each production Operate lighting equipment during rehearsals and performances, ensuring precise execution of lighting cues Collaborate with the production team to plan lighting setups, including placement, color schemes, and effects Maintain, troubleshoot, and safely operate all lighting equipment and related technical systems Assist in setting up stage lighting during load-in and strike after performances Support the creation of visual content for promotional materials, including filming or photographing productions as needed Contribute to post-production activities such as editing video content using software like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro for marketing or archival purposes Requirements Proven experience in theatrical lighting design and operation, preferably within nonprofit or children's theater settings Strong knowledge of lighting software and hardware, including DMX programming and control consoles Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, Lightroom, and video editing platforms like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro Ability to film, photograph, and edit videos or photos for promotional or documentation purposes Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with creative teams and technical staff Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly during live performances Physical ability to handle lighting equipment setup, adjustments, and maintenance safely A passion for working with children and creating engaging theatrical experiences that inspire young audiences This role is a paid position designed to foster creativity while supporting the artistic growth of our community.
