Low Voltage & Smart Home Lighting Technician Job Overview Light Masters is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Low Voltage & Smart Home Lighting Technician to join our team. We specialize in high-end residential and commercial custom lighting design, smart home automation, motorized shades, and audio/visual integrations. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing low-voltage electrical systems (C7 scope), custom LED strip lighting, landscape lighting, and smart automation networks. Key Responsibilities Installation & Cabling:
Run, pull, terminate, and dress low-voltage wiring (CAT6, speaker wire, LED drivers, low-voltage power) cleanly and according to project plans.
Lighting Systems & Fixtures:
Install custom architectural lighting, custom LED tape/strip lights, landscape and water feature lighting, chandeliers, and high-end residential lighting fixtures.
Smart Home & Automation:
Assist in setting up, wiring, and integrating smart lighting controls, smart home hubs, motorized shades, AV equipment, and security cameras.
Troubleshooting & Testing:
Diagnose and resolve low-voltage electrical issues, network connectivity problems, and fixture faults using standard diagnostic tools (multimeters, tone generators, cable testers).
Code & Safety Compliance:
Ensure all installations meet California low-voltage electrical codes (C7 requirements), local building standards, and jobsite safety protocols.
Blueprint Reading:
Read and execute system installations using low-voltage wiring schematics, lighting plans, and technical manuals.
Client & Team Interaction:
Represent Light Masters with professionalism and courtesy on job sites, communicating effectively with project leads, contractors, and homeowners.
Requirements & Qualifications Experience:
1-3+ years of experience working with low-voltage systems, residential/commercial lighting installation, or smart home integration.
Licensing/Knowledge:
Strong familiarity with C7 low-voltage scope of work and relevant National Electrical Code (NEC) standards for low-voltage power and data distribution.
Technical Skills:
Hands-on proficiency with hand/power tools, crimpers, solders, cable testing equipment, and multimeters. Experience with LED driver wiring, low-voltage dimming (0-10V, ELV, MLV), and low-voltage control systems. Experience with smart home controls, motorized shading systems, or home audio/video is a major plus. Attention to
