This part-time role involves assisting in the design and construction of sets, managing lighting for productions, guiding students in technical theater skills, and ensuring a safe and organized workshop environment. Role:
The Technical Theater Assistant plays a key role in bringing our Performing Arts productions and school events to life. This position supports all aspects of sound, lighting, and scenic design for performances, assemblies, and special programs. It is the perfect opportunity for a creative problem-solver with strong technical skills, a collaborative spirit, and a love of both the arts and education. What You willDo:
- Work closely with the Director of Arts to design and construct safe, functional, and visually appealing sets and props for all school productions, including Lower School, Middle School, and Chagiga.
- Design, program, and operate lighting, sound, and projection systems.
- Work on scenic construction, set installation, and special effects.
- Train and supervise student technical crew members after school hours
- Oversee and maintain all theater equipment and technical assets.
- Support for school-wide events/assemblies outside theater productions
- Assistance with strike/load-in/load-out
- Availability for evening/weekend performances and rehearsals What You will
Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Theater, Technical Production, Fine Arts, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in technical theater (lighting, sound, scenic design, or stage management).
- Strong knowledge of lighting/sound systems and related software, such as ETC lighting consoles, QLab, Behringer, wireless microphones, etc.
- Basic carpentry and rigging skills.
- Ability to lift and move equipment; comfortable working at heights using lifts or catwalks.
- Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Bonus Points For:
- Videography or live streaming experience.
- Experience working in a school or educational theater environment.
- Basic IT or AV troubleshooting skills.
