Position Summary:
Theater Technicians report to the Head of Theaters with additional guidance from the Deputy Director of Operations. Theater Technicians safely operate theater systems and equipment to provide museum visitors with a superior theater experience. Technicians work under general supervision to maintain equipment and systems, and operate shows with minimal direction provided by the Head of Theaters while demonstrating sound and visual technical knowledge, mechanical skills, initiative and sound judgment. Works collaboratively with other Museum departments, assisting in operation of theater presentations when necessary and facilitating special programming for internal and external events and programs. Displays a professional, respectful, and service-oriented focus when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public. Invests in and contributes to a work environment that values the Museum's core values of Leadership, Excellence, Accessibility, Diversity, Engagement and Relevance. Performs all other duties as assigned •Work hours are based on the Museum's 365 day-per-year schedule and may include weekends, evenings and/or holidays, including on short notice. Work hours may extend beyond normal 8 hours based on event schedule.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots the IMAX and Spirit Theater systems, including show control, projection, sound, lighting, theatrical sets, special effects, ancillary systems, and other equipment. Prepares all theater presentations through setup, programming, and rehearsals to meet museum's presentation standards. Facilitates and executes all theater presentations; including daily automated multi-sensory shows, film screenings, and live performances. Ensures that all programs are presented on schedule. Adheres to established procedures for cleaning, inspection, and preventive maintenance of all theater equipment. Coordinates with other technicians to conduct minor repairs of technical issues, and schedule vendors for complex repairs as authorized.
Maintenance of systems may include:
electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and electronics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be methodical with strict, continuous attention to details. Ability to work in low light conditions, climb stairs and work behind-the-scenes, including catwalks over 60 feet high. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to safely lifts equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Must possess acute eyesight and hearing, visual acuity at a distance, and night vision. Ability to work with power tools and use of electrical diagnostic tools. Ability to use a personal computer.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate. 2 years professional experience in cinema, live events, television, or closely related field. Experience with audiovisual equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in RTF, Theater, or a closely related field. 6 years professional experience will be considered degree equivalent. Technical experience with professional A/V equipment such as control systems, video projectors, audio consoles, lighting control, and various video and audio playback devices. Proficiency with Apple and Windows operating software. Electronic Theatre Controls console programming and Dataton Watchout experience. Solid understanding for A/V signal flow and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and pneumatic systems is desirable.
