Full Job Description Description:
The Lighting Technician position provides technical production support with emphasis on performance lighting installation/operation, as well as maintenance for performance lighting equipment and architectural light fixtures for arts and cultural events at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
MAINTENANCE
Provide ongoing routine preventive maintenance, inspections, cleaning, and basic repairs of performance lighting equipment, including: moving lights, follow spots, architectural fixtures, hardware, conventional fixtures, lamp replacements, and repairs to sockets and associated cables. Provide electrical testing, as well as procurement/coordination of parts replacement, tools, consumables and repairs as applicable. Other venue maintenance duties to include: assistance with maintenance and repairs of acoustic canopies, reverb doors, acoustical curtains, stage electrical equipment, rigging equipment, audio, and video equipment.
PRODUCTION
Provide lighting production support for concerts and special events, including: master electrician duties, lighting design, control console programming, lighting system installation, operation, and system troubleshooting.
Other production duties to include:
operating movable acoustic canopies, reverb doors, acoustical curtains, and rigging, as well as set-up/operation of stage electrical equipment, special effects, audio, video, staging and other necessary technical support as assigned.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Provide excellent customer service for performing artists, vendors, rental clients, and general public, while maintaining and communicating venue policies, safety guidelines and processes as published.
DOCUMENTATION
Assist with maintaining accurate written performance lighting equipment inventory, as well as preserving ongoing revisions to the lighting plot and system infrastructure diagrams to ensure safe, efficient and reliable system functionality. Provide accurate written event reports to track stage labor, equipment inventory, billing and administrative statistics. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Theatre Production, Technical Theatre, Lighting Design, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 3+ years of professional theatrical or live event lighting experience, preferably in a performing arts venue. Experience with ETC lighting systems, DMX networking, intelligent fixtures, and follow spots. Knowledge of theatrical electrical systems, rigging, stage production, and lighting maintenance. Experience with venue and technical facility maintenance. Familiarity with acoustically designed concert halls and symphonic productions preferred. Ability to work at heights up to 80 feet and lift up to 50 pounds. Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Experience with Vectorworks is a preferred. ETCP, OSHA, or aerial lift certifications preferred.
