This position may be full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate's availability . We have consistent work available for a 40-hour-per-week, full-time position for someone seeking full-time employment, but we are also willing to consider a strong candidate who prefers a part-time schedule. This is an in-person position at our Troy office . Schedule and weekly hours can be discussed based on the candidate's availability and our production needs. This is a hands-on production position focused primarily on preparing, correcting and maintaining the thousands of stamp images used throughout the Scott Catalogue product line. What You'll Do Scan and prepare stamps and other philatelic material for publication Color correct images to accurately represent original material Adjust color and gray balance Clean and refine images using Adobe Photoshop Work with layers and established image-production workflows Use the Pen Tool to create precise paths and clipping paths Maintain consistent image quality across a large catalog image library Organize and process digital image files Assist with Scott Catalogue production and related publishing projects Perform basic spreadsheet work in Microsoft Excel Learn and follow established Scott Catalogue image and production standards Depending on experience, assist with page production and layout work in Adobe InDesign What We're Looking For Strong Adobe Photoshop skills are important for this position.
Particularly useful experience includes:
Color correction Curves Hue/Saturation Selective Color Replace Color and similar correction tools Layers and layer-based workflows Pen Tool Paths and clipping paths Understanding of color and gray balance Experience with SilverFast or SilverFast HDR is helpful but not required. Basic Microsoft Excel skills are helpful. Adobe InDesign experience is a significant plus. Experience with publication layout, long-document production, prepress or other InDesign-based publishing workflows would be especially valuable. Stamp Collectors Encouraged to Apply Knowledge of postage stamps, philately or the Scott Catalogue would be a major advantage. We would especially like to hear from stamp collectors who also have experience with Photoshop, photography, scanning, prepress, digital image production or InDesign. However, philatelic experience is not required. We can teach the stamp-specific aspects of the position to someone with strong imaging skills, attention to detail and an interest in learning. Who Would Be a Good Fit? This is not primarily a graphic-design or marketing position . The work involves detailed image and publication production where accuracy, color fidelity and consistency are important. You may be a particularly good fit if you: Have an excellent eye for color and subtle visual differences Enjoy precise, detail-oriented work Are comfortable working extensively in Adobe Photoshop Can work accurately and consistently with large numbers of images Have experience with photography, scanning, prepress, publishing or image production Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail Enjoy stamps, collectibles, history or publishing Are comfortable learning specialized production processes and following established standards About Scott Stamp LLC Scott Stamp LLC is the publisher of the internationally recognized Scott postage stamp catalogues, Linn's Stamp News and Scott Stamp Monthly . The Scott Catalogue has served generations of stamp collectors, dealers, auction houses and libraries. Maintaining the accuracy and quality of its extensive image library is an important part of producing the catalogues each year. We are a small publishing team based in Troy, Ohio, offering the opportunity to work directly on some of the best-known and longest-running publications in stamp collecting.
