Ophthalmic Photographer Job Description The Ophthalmic Photographer supports a high-volume retina clinic by performing specialized ophthalmic imaging, basic clinical testing, and accurate documentation to enhance patient flow and overall patient experience. This role works closely with physicians and clinical staff to obtain high-quality diagnostic images and patient data that support timely and precise clinical decisions. Responsibilities Obtain thorough and accurate patient history and document it clearly in the medical record. Perform and document visual acuity tests in accordance with clinic protocols. Conduct optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) imaging as ordered by the physician. Perform intravenous fluorescein angiography (IVFA) and indocyanine green angiography (ICG), including preparation, imaging, and documentation of results. Capture high-quality fundus, anterior segment, and external ophthalmic photographs using specialized imaging equipment. Maintain organized, accurate, and up-to-date imaging and clinical records within the clinic's systems. Work in close coordination with physicians and a team of clinical staff to support efficient patient flow throughout the clinic day. Adapt to a fast-paced, high-volume environment, supporting the care of approximately 80-100 patients per day. Follow clinic protocols for patient safety, infection control, and proper handling of imaging equipment and supplies. Collaborate with multiple clinic locations as needed to ensure consistent imaging quality and patient service. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to learn and follow complex imaging and clinical procedures quickly. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience in ophthalmic photography or a closely related ophthalmic clinical role. Hands-on experience with fluorescein angiography (FAs), including image acquisition and basic understanding of procedures. Proficiency in performing fundus photography and other ophthalmic imaging techniques. Ability to perform OCT and related imaging studies in an ophthalmic setting. Strong computer skills to document patient information, manage imaging files, and navigate clinical software. Ability to work effectively in a very fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment. Strong attention to detail, accuracy in documentation, and commitment to image quality. Willingness to obtain CPR certification if not already certified. Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients and clinical staff. Ability to learn quickly, follow detailed protocols, and support multiple physicians and team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it within a specified timeframe. Fluorescein angiography experience (FAs) beyond basic exposure is highly valued. COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant), OCT-C, or CRA (Certified Retinal Angiographer) certifications are preferred. Bilingual communication skills are beneficial in serving a diverse patient population. Prior experience in a retina or ophthalmology clinic is an advantage. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a structured, high-volume clinical workflow. Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset to collaborate with a large clinical staff. Work Environment This role is based in a very fast-paced retina clinic environment that routinely sees 80-100 patients per day. Typical work hours fall between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with schedules assigned within this window based on clinic needs; early starts or late finishes are rare and generally occur only when the clinic is extremely busy. Initial training takes place at an administrative building in the Galleria area for a day before transitioning to regular clinic duties. The position is part of a larger clinical team, working alongside approximately 8-24 staff members, with each physician supported by a team of eight clinic staff. The home clinic is a high-volume location that can see over 100 patients a day, and the role also provides support to additional clinics as needed, with schedules provided two weeks in advance. Travel to clinics outside the primary three locations may occasionally be required for training, with mileage reimbursed when traveling beyond the usual sites. systems, fundus cameras, and angiography systems, along with regular use of computers and clinical software for documentation and image management. The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, with short, well-groomed nails and hair securely tied back to maintain a professional and hygienic clinical appearance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Conroe, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $27.00/hr.
