Sky Patrol (working title) — Discovery Channel docuseries
Company:
V1 Productions Base /
Location:
Palm Beach County HQ (West Palm Beach area) with travel to the satellite counties.
Employment Type:
Freelance / project-based — run of show
Reports To:
Showrunner
ABOUT THE SHOW
Sky Patrol is a character-driven docuseries for the Discovery Channel following the aviation, ground, and marine units of law enforcement agencies across four Florida counties. Built around real incidents captured on agency FLIR helicopter footage — reenacted with the officers who lived them and layered with live ride-along coverage during active patrol — it's a show about real people doing extraordinary things. Produced by V1 Productions, the aviation-specialist company behind Amazon's Straight and Level.
THE ROLE
The Associate Producer is the showrunner's right hand on story and the connective tissue between the field and the edit. You'll help identify which real incidents become episodes, keep the character-driven storytelling on track across four counties, manage the flow of story material coming in from the field producers, and help shepherd cuts and deliverables to the network.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Review archival agency FLIR footage and help the showrunner identify the strongest real incidents to build into stories.
  • Track candidate incidents through network approval and coordinate review notes and deliverables with the Discovery team.
  • Synthesize field producers' hot sheets, notes, and selects into clear story documents and character profiles.
  • Maintain story tracking, character bibles, and interview targets across all four counties.
  • Coordinate interview needs and story points between the showrunner, field producers, and the edit team.
  • Support clearances, releases, and coordination with the real officers featured in the series.
  • Partner with the Field Assistant Editor and DIT so the right material reaches the cutting room organized and on time.
REQUIRED
  • Sharp story sense and the ability to build character-driven narratives from raw field material.
  • Experience logging and reviewing footage and finding story beats, including archival material.
  • Excellent organization — comfortable owning story docs, trackers, and deliverable schedules across multiple simultaneous shoots.
  • Strong communicator able to work across field, edit, and network stakeholders.
PREFERRED
  • Experience on law enforcement, first-responder, or aerial / aviation programming.
  • Familiarity with network notes and delivery processes (Discovery / WBD a plus).
  • Comfort with post workflows — selects, assemblies, and review-cut prep.
  • Experience coordinating with real-life cast (officers, agencies) and managing sensitivities around real incidents.
