ABOUT THE SHOW
Sky Patrol is a character-driven docuseries for the Discovery Channel following the aviation, ground, and marine units of law enforcement agencies across four Florida counties. Built around real incidents captured on agency FLIR helicopter footage — reenacted with the officers who lived them and layered with live ride-along coverage during active patrol — it's a show about real people doing extraordinary things. Produced by V1 Productions, the aviation-specialist company behind Amazon's Straight and Level.
THE ROLE
Field Producers / Shooters are the backbone of the production. You embed with a ground or marine unit, shoot your own coverage, and produce your story on the fly — capturing live incidents during active patrol, running reenactments with the officers who were involved, and finding the character moments that make each episode. This is a self-shooting producer role: you carry the camera and the story at the same time.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Embed with an assigned law enforcement unit during active patrol; shoot on a shoulder-mount camera while a vehicle POV camera covers the officer.
- Capture real incidents live as they unfold, and run controlled verite of approved FLIR incidents with the actual personnel.
- Identify and develop story beats in the moment; line up and conduct interviews with officers and subjects.
- Secure releases and field paperwork; keep accurate shot notes and contribute to daily hot sheets.
- Feed organized selects and notes back to the edit team and Associate Producer.
- (Select field producers) Ride up with the aviation unit to patrol, gather aerial b-roll, and produce the airborne pieces of a story.
- Work long, irregular, patrol-aligned shifts in fast-moving and unpredictable environments.
REQUIRED
- Strong run-and-gun / verité camera skills on professional cameras; confident operating solo in dynamic conditions.
- Proven story instincts — able to recognize and shape a character-driven narrative as it happens.
- Experience conducting interviews and capturing usable, organized coverage.
- Composure and judgment in high-intensity, real-world law enforcement environments.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; able to pass an agency background check (required for law enforcement ride-alongs).
PREFERRED
- Prior law enforcement, first-responder, or ride-along production experience.
- Comfort working in and around helicopters and marine vessels; aviation experience a plus.
- Familiarity with multi-cam and POV / lipstick camera workflows.
