Job Description

The Coastal Star is seeking an experienced reporter who can hit the ground running covering municipal government and community news in southern Palm Beach County. The successful candidate will be assigned a beat covering a mix of communities within the paper's circulation area, which encompasses Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and the coastal towns of Highland Beach, Gulf Stream, Briny Breezes, Ocean Ridge, Manalapan, Lantana and South Palm Beach. The Coastal Star , an award-winning hyperlocal monthly newspaper, is the paper of record for many of these barrier island communities. We are known for authoritative coverage of local government, community issues and the people who shape life along the coast. The ideal candidate shares our passion for community journalism. They have experience covering municipal meetings, identifying the stories behind agenda items and policy decisions, cultivating government and community sources, and producing accurate, engaging stories on deadline. The ability to recognize newsworthy developments and produce enterprise stories across multiple communities is highly valued. This is a substantial part-time position with the potential to grow into a larger role for the right candidate. Applicants should send a resume, recent writing samples—particularly municipal or public affairs clips—and contact information to larry@thecoastalstar.com.
