Full Job Description Job Summary :
The KWGS Senior Reporter reports to the News Director and covers a wide array of news topics in the Tulsa area and beyond. Reports on planned and breaking events with an emphasis on enterprise feature reporting along with breaking spot news. This position assists with updating station website and sharing content via social media. Provides original reporting and reporting assistance and content to NPR and other national or international outlets. Serves as back-up host for morning and afternoon, filling in as needed. Serves as News Director in absence of News Director. The Sr. Reporter offers mentorship and training in collaboration with News Director to junior reporters and interns. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Gathers information and assets such as audio and images for reporting and stories, including monitoring and pulling relevant audio from meetings, hearings, and press conferences. Researches, produces, reports, writes and voice assigns stories for broadcast and station website, including spot news and feature length stories on a general assignment basis. Updates station website and shares stories via social media. Covers breaking news and contributes to the NPR national network newscasts and programs, as needed. Assists and collaborates with other public radio stations in Oklahoma, sharing created stories, and working collaboratively with other station personnel on special projects. Available to host Morning Edition or All Things Considered as a substitute, as needed. Hosts or co-hosts other station programs or events, as needed. Represents KWGS and Public Radio Tulsa at station-sponsored events outside of the station, including candidate forums, and other station-sponsored events including membership and fundraising events. Occasionally assists on-air fundraising efforts through live-pitching during fund drives and/or producing fund drive promos, as available. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Proficient with Microsoft Suite. Excellent verbal communication skills and speaking voice. Thorough knowledge of journalistic ethics. Familiarity with AP style. Equivalent Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field required. Must have 3 - 5 years full-time reporting experience with a radio station, TV station, digital media or newspaper producing daily news. Experience with at least one content management system required. Must have valid driver's license and ability to travel locally and within state for news coverage required.

Work requires working with highly sensitive or confidential information and occasional overnight travel may occur.
