Job Description

  • and community journalism across much of Wyoming
  • was uncertain.
Our newspapers had closed, our employees had lost their jobs and communities were facing the possibility of losing trusted local news altogether. A year later, the Kemmerer Gazette is still here. We have rebuilt, grown and proven that local journalism has a future in Wyoming. Now, we are looking for a news reporter who wants to help us take the next step. This is a hands-on newsroom position for someone who wants to be part of the community
  • not simply report from the sidelines.
You will tell the stories that matter to Lincoln County, photograph the people and moments that define it, and help shape our coverage in print, online and across our digital platforms. What You'll Do Cover local government, schools, courts, businesses, agriculture and community life Develop meaningful relationships with the people and organizations we serve Write timely, accurate and engaging stories for print and digital audiences Photograph breaking news, community events, features and everyday life Help identify the stories and issues that matter most to Lincoln County Work alongside a small, committed newsroom and locally invested publishers Uphold the standards and responsibilities of independent community journalism Who You Are A strong writer and storyteller with curiosity and a sense for news Comfortable working independently while contributing to a close-knit team Able to balance multiple assignments and meet deadlines Comfortable with
  • or willing to learn
  • news photography and digital publishing Interested in becoming part of the community you cover Passionate about the role local journalism plays in keeping communities informed and connected Previous newsroom experience is valued, but we are also willing to work with a promising journalist who is eager to learn, grow and make a difference.
What We Offer The opportunity to join a locally owned newspaper with renewed momentum and a clear commitment to the future Support from owners and colleagues who live and work in Wyoming Competitive compensation and opportunities for professional growth The freedom to pursue meaningful local stories The satisfaction of seeing your work make a direct impact Relocation assistance for the right candidate We are proud of how far the Kemmerer Gazette has come during the past year
  • but reopening the doors was only the beginning.
We are building a stronger newspaper for today and making a promise that trusted local journalism will continue serving Lincoln County well into the future. If you believe strong communities need strong local newspapers, we would like to hear from you. Send a letter of interest and writing samples to Rob Mortimore at rmort@torringtontelegram.com .
