Develops drawings and plans to accommodate the specific space, lighting and temperature requirements of materials to be exhibited; builds or supervises building of exhibits. Designs stage sets and scenery for performances, primarily for live theater performances, or sets for filmed performances or for events such as press conferences. Works with directors and producers to plan props and materials needed for a show.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) places education at the core of its mission to help the public understand and learn about visionary art and tap into creative, compassionate ways of thinking and doing. AVAM has a dedicated classroom for facilitating hands-on art lessons with K-12 students, camp groups, and adults; we serve thousands of people with hands-on art making every year. The Education Associate role is part-time and works primarily to teach and facilitate K-12 and public workshops. The Associate works in the Education Department alongside the Director of Education and Education Coordinator, along with interns, volunteers, and docents.
Details of this position include:
Assist in all tasks of classroom and event functions including but not limited to the following: Set-up and clean up for workshops Prepare supplies for workshops and help keep an inventory of supplies Assist during all K-12 and adult workshops Assist during professional development workshops Accompany the Education staff during outreach and off-site workshops Oversee artists during weekend workshops Assist with set-up/clean up/planning for AVAM events as directed by the Director of Education Assist with educational mailings as well as general museum mailings Update Education databases as directed by the Director of Education Conduct general research as directed by the Director of Education Plan and facilitate AVAM's off-site after school program Visionary Explorers

Experience working with students to create art in different settings. Possess strong classroom management skills. Possess strong ability to function as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
