Set Designer Brain Games Escape Room San Pedro, CA Job Details Full-time | Contract $25 - $35 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications Visual storytelling Visual design Vectorworks Theater Lighting design Art direction Full Job Description We are looking for a talented Set Designer / Scenic Designer / Art Director to help design the physical environment for a new escape room in San Pedro. This is not primarily a CAD or SketchUp drafting job. We need a designer first — someone with a strong eye for set design, atmosphere, materials, layout, and environmental storytelling. SketchUp, Enscape, Vectorworks, Blender, or similar software skills are a plus, but the main priority is the ability to turn our props, puzzles, and ideas into a cohesive, beautiful, buildable space. We already have detailed concepts for the theme, props, puzzles, and game flow. We also have a builder with TV studio experience who can build from detailed plans. What we need is someone to decide how the room should look and feel: the layout, walls, ceiling, furniture, props, lighting, textures, finishes, and overall visual style. The project is an 80s rockstar-themed escape room for adults with a raunchy comedy tone. The experience includes a rockstar apartment with couches, coffee tables, posters, guitars, clothes, wigs, and themed set dressing, plus a hidden adult-themed room. The goal is for the space to feel fun, stylish, immersive, high-quality, and theatrical without becoming cartoonish.
Responsibilities include:
Creating the overall visual direction and layout Organizing existing props and puzzles into a cohesive room design Designing wall, ceiling, floor, furniture, lighting, and set dressing details Creating visual references, sketches, renderings, plans, or other design materials Providing enough detail for our builder to interpret and execute the design Helping create a material/shopping list while keeping budget in mind Attending some in-person meetings/site visits in San Pedro Giving feedback as needed during the build Experience in set design, scenic design, themed entertainment, theater, film/TV sets, escape rooms, haunts, immersive experiences, or art direction is ideal. This role will start as a freelance/contract project for the initial design, with potential for additional work as the build continues. Some work can be remote, but you must be able to visit the space in San Pedro. To apply, please include: Portfolio or visual examples of previous work Relevant experience Software/design tools you use Availability Applications without a portfolio or visual examples will not be considered.
