Job Title:
Technical Writer Overview We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support our SD Manufacturing team by developing clear, accurate, and consistent documentation that enables high-quality manufacturing execution. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineers, manufacturing associates, and other subject matter experts to translate complex technical and engineering concepts into user-friendly documentation for both technical and nontechnical audiences. This position plays a critical role in ensuring manufacturing processes are performed accurately, consistently, and in alignment with quality and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Create, develop, plan, write, and edit operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures for the SD Manufacturing team. Collaborate with engineers, subject matter experts, and end users to gather technical information and process details. Research technical topics and translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise, and accessible documentation. Document engineering processes and specifications using structured, standardized formats. Recommend documentation structures and formats that align with technical requirements, user needs, and business objectives. Ensure all documentation complies with established company standards, quality systems, and documentation best practices. Organize, track, and manage documentation content and revisions using Microsoft Office tools. Develop meaningful build packets and manufacturing documentation for use on the production floor. Convert engineering concepts into step-by-step instructions that manufacturing associates can easily follow and execute. Continuously learn new tools, processes, and standards to improve documentation quality and effectiveness. Required Skills & Experience Proven experience in technical writing, particularly creating operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures. Experience working with engineering or highly technical content, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Strong ability to analyze, synthesize, and translate complex technical information for diverse audiences. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to create, organize, and track documentation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence and initiative to engage subject matter experts and stakeholders. Ability to understand engineering terminology and convert it into clear, practical manufacturing instructions. Strong learning agility with the ability to quickly absorb new concepts and apply them to documentation. Preferred Qualifications Experience in medical device manufacturing or familiarity with medical device documentation. Knowledge of cleanroom environments and associated operational requirements. Experience working in FDA-regulated or other highly regulated industries. Proven ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Work Environment This role supports a manufacturing-focused environment where documentation directly guides production activities and build processes. You will work closely with engineers, manufacturing associates, and technical experts to gather information and validate procedures. The position utilizes standard office productivity tools, including Microsoft Office, to manage and organize documentation. Following successful training and onboarding, the role offers a hybrid work arrangement , with one remote day per week and the remaining time spent on-site collaborating with stakeholders and supporting manufacturing operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
