We are committed to transforming public health through equitable, data-driven solutions. VMG is seeking an experienced Scientific Technical Writer to support the National Library of Medicine (NLM). This position provides executive-level scientific communications support by developing, editing, and managing high-quality technical and scientific communications for NLM leadership. The Scientific Technical Writer will support executive communications planning, reporting, presentations, leadership briefings, strategic engagement activities, and knowledge management initiatives while ensuring scientific accuracy, consistency, and accessibility across internal and external communications. Key Responsibilities Develop, write, edit, and publish scientific and technical communications for executive leadership. Prepare scientific articles, reports, policy papers, fact sheets, one-pagers, presentations, speeches, briefing materials, workshop summaries, brochures, press releases, blogs, and digital communications. Draft executive correspondence, talking points, scripts, presentation materials, executive emails, and strategic communications products. Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and synthesize scientific findings into concise reports, summaries, and presentations. Research and prepare technical reports supporting scientific, administrative, legislative, and regulatory activities. Develop executive messaging that supports organizational priorities, strategic initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and leadership communications. Prepare presentations, speaker notes, briefing books, question-and-answer documents, and presentation support materials for NLM leadership. Review and edit scientific reports, technical documents, correspondence, and communications to ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, clarity, and completeness. Coordinate with researchers, program managers, subject matter experts, and executive leadership to develop scientifically accurate communications. Develop and maintain communications resources, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), templates, toolkits, style guides, checklists, and reusable communications materials. Assist with maintaining and updating knowledge management resources, including internal collaboration sites and communication repositories. Ensure presentations, reports, and digital communications comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements, as applicable. Provide copyediting, proofreading, formatting, and quality assurance for executive communications and scientific publications. Cross-reference source materials and verify citations to ensure technical accuracy and originality. Support communications planning for executive meetings, stakeholder engagements, and cross-organizational initiatives. Mentor staff on scientific writing best practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of executive communications processes. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Communications, Biology, Medical and Health Services, Communication Technologies, Computer Programming and Data Processing, or a related field. Experience developing scientific, technical, or executive communications for healthcare, biomedical research, or federal organizations. Strong scientific writing, editing, proofreading, and executive communications experience. Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing complex scientific information for technical and non-technical audiences. Experience developing presentations, executive briefings, reports, and strategic communications materials. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Self-starter with strong organizational and project management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite , including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Library of Medicine (NLM), or other federal health agencies. Experience supporting executive leadership communications. Experience developing scientific publications, health communications, or biomedical communications. Experience managing SharePoint sites, knowledge management systems, or communication repositories. Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards for federal communications. Experience creating communication strategies and stakeholder engagement materials. Work Environment Full-time position (40 hours per week). Monday through Friday schedule. Position is located at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in Bethesda, Maryland . Telework is available in accordance with government approval. Professional office environment supporting executive leadership, scientific communications, and strategic initiatives. Position requires close collaboration with executive leadership, researchers, program managers, and multidisciplinary stakeholders while supporting high-impact scientific communication and organizational engagement activities.
