A Technical Writer writes product instructions, user manuals or other material that helps to explain complex information or procedures. Writes help information available to customers online, or clear explanations of company policies. Supports internal communication among different technical, engineering and scientific specialists working on a project or product. Creates product documentation, and provides input for improving product design.
The Technical Writer will play a critical role ensuring clear and concise documentation across multiple departments, including Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and Production. This role involves gatherings, analyzing, and translating complex technical information into user-friendly materials that meet Platform's and industry standards.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create, review, and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, specifications, reports, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and other related materials. Translate complex engineering and technical concepts into clear, concise, and understandable documentations for a variety of audiences
Applies communication and interviewing skills to collect needed information from internal and external personnel to support writing activities
Conducts research if needed on RFP technical/functional areas to gain better understanding of Materials to be written
Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop technical specifications, standard operating procedures, end-user installation and operation manuals, and product insert sheets.
Develop and maintain a content directory for documentation, ensuring version control, accessibility, and regular updates to keep documentation accurate and current
Ensure that written materials are grammatically correct and maintain a consistent tone or voice
Identify and implement best practices to streamline documentation processes and improved efficiency and usability
Seeks feedback from stakeholders to refine and improve documentation quality.
Performs other duties as are necessary and/or required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in communications, STEM, Writing & Rhetoric, or a related field
2-5 years of experience in technical writing or 6 years of related experience in lieu of education
Excellent written, editing, and oral communication skills, example writing will be requested from candidates
Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and independently (self-starter)
Ability and willingness to work under tight deadlines and support multiple pursuits concurrently
Basic understanding of engineering, quality assurance, and project management concepts
Ability to create vector graphics to supplement writing instructions.
Ability to synthesize complex technical concepts into clear, actionable content
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent computer skills and proficiency using MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Access, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Illustrator/InDesign
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit for extended periods while working on documentation
