Job Description

Description A Brief Overview The Scientific Writer/Editor is responsible for partnering with Grants Officers on the Research Development team to provide assistance to faculty investigators in the solicitation of competitively sought funds from corporate, foundation and government prospects at the major gift ($500,000+) level. The Scientific Writer/Editor will provide specialized support and consultation in support of the preparation of research grant proposals. What You Will Do Through the direction of the Grants Officer, work with investigators to develop, write, and revise translational-, clinical-, and health services research grant proposals for federal agencies, foundations, and other appropriate funders Provide constructive feedback to investigators to improve clarity, logic, and persuasiveness of grant proposals In coordination with the Grants Officer, advise investigators on best strategies to convey significance, impact, and innovation of their research plan Consult with investigators in responding to critiques for grant proposal resubmissions Establish and maintain effective working relationships with investigators Conduct prospect research and development for the Institutional Giving Team Assist with other duties associated with the Institutional Giving, Research Development Office, as appropriate Actively participate in UH IRD development activities Lead special projects as assigned and approved by IR D and UH leadership Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Qualifications Education Advance degree (Required) and Doctorate Degree in a scientific or health-related field with 3+ years professional experience in scientific and medical writing (Preferred) Work Experience 3+ years Experience with submission of both small and large federal and foundation grants, e.g. AHRQ, HRSA, PCORI and/or NIH grant proposals, preferably in a healthcare institution or institution of higher education (Required) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Excellent critical analysis skills (Required proficiency) Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Required proficiency) Able to quickly acquire working knowledge regarding a variety of scientific/medical fields (Required proficiency) Able to establish effective collaborations with faculty investigators in various disciplines (Required proficiency) Able to meet deadlines in a timely manner (Required proficiency) Able to organize multiple tasks with varying deadlines (Required proficiency) Physical Demands Standing Occasionally Walking Occasionally Sitting Constantly Lifting Rarely up to 20 lbs Carrying Rarely up to 20 lbs Pushing Rarely up to 20 lbs Pulling Rarely up to 20 lbs Climbing Rarely up to 20 lbs Balancing Rarely Stooping Rarely Kneeling Rarely Crouching Rarely Crawling Rarely Reaching Rarely Handling Occasionally Grasping Occasionally Feeling Rarely Talking Constantly Hearing Constantly Repetitive Motions Frequently Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination Frequently Travel Requirements 10%
