Active Secret Security Clearance required at time of employment Position Summary Fairwinds Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer with avionics and aerospace systems expertise to support a major airborne communications modernization program for military surveillance and command-and-control aircraft. In this role, you will develop and maintain technical documentation supporting aircraft modifications, avionics integration, communications systems, software development, testing, certification, maintenance, logistics, and training activities. You will work closely with engineering, software, cybersecurity, logistics, and program management teams to produce accurate, compliant, and customer-ready technical publications throughout the system lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Author, revise, and maintain technical publications supporting aircraft avionics and communication system upgrades. Develop technical manuals, maintenance manuals, installation procedures, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and sustainment documentation. Create and maintain Technical Orders (TOs), Technical Manuals (TMs), Installation Control Drawings documentation, Equipment Installation Instructions, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs), software, airworthiness, and logistics and sustainment documentation. Develop publication packages for system integration laboratories, aircraft modifications, and ground support systems. Work directly with systems engineering teams to document system architectures, requirements traceability, design reviews, integration activities, verification and validation efforts, configuration management processes, and hardware and software changes. Develop and maintain software-related documentation. Coordinate documentation efforts between software teams and system integration personnel. Support documentation reviews associated with laboratory, ground, and flight test events. Develop and maintain military technical orders in accordance with government standards. Ensure publications comply with applicable military standards and customer requirements. Develop Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) documentation and support the development of Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) documentation, Support Equipment documentation, Training System Implementation Plans (TSIPs), operator and maintainer training materials, courseware and classroom materials. Participate in engineering working groups and program reviews. Gather technical information from SMEs and convert it into clear, concise, and accurate documentation. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aviation Technology, or related technical discipline. Experience 9+ years of technical writing experience. 5+ years supporting avionics, aerospace, military aircraft, or defense programs. Experience developing technical publications for complex hardware and software systems. Experience supporting aircraft modification or aircraft integration programs. Experience working in engineering development environments. Experience with AWACS, ISR, C2, airborne communications, or large aircraft mission systems. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location and experience. Additional incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
