Job Description
Description The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate combines technical proficiency with exceptional communication, writing, and collaboration skills. We are looking for someone who can translate complex concepts into clear, accessible information and who has experience in technical writing, teaching, curriculum development, communications, or other writing-intensive fields. This position supports the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) , a nationally accredited, six-time Gold Medal Award-winning Parks and Recreation agency. The selected candidate will work directly with the Customer Service Help Desk , which provides both technical assistance and traditional customer service to the public and internal staff. Support requests range from general information about parks and community centers to troubleshooting software, hardware, and other technology-related issues. This is an on-site position . After a six-month probationary period, employees may be eligible for up to two remote workdays per week , based on performance and operational needs. We are seeking a self-starter with excellent time-management skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated writing skill required, including a portfolio or writing samples showcasing instructional, technical, or process-focused writing; professional experience and formal education considered, but not required Demonstrated strength in clear, structured writing, content development, and technical editing Proven ability to analyze complex information and translate it into accurate, user-centered instructions Strong attention to detail, with an instinct for clarity, consistency of voice, and correction of written materials Strong communication and collaboration skills, including experience partnering with subject matter experts across technical, operational, and support teams Supplemental Information May be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing.
