The Virginia Retirement System is seeking a technical writer to draft business processes, procedures, training content and to maintain benefit manuals. Additional tasks include developing tables, charts, short clips and other visual enhancements techniques in job aids to distill complex benefit information into easily understandable items. The individual will utilize SharePoint to manage the lifecycle of their products to include PDFs and be agile working within a variety of project management applications. Essential duties include but are not limited to: Working closely with subject matter experts (SME's), curriculum developers, e-learning designers and trainers to develop training job aids, system process guides and business unit documentation. Updating training materials, business documentation and content manuals based on legislative and/or system changes. Working collaboratively with training staff, agency business units and all levels of leadership to provide current, accurate and consistent content. Working with system developers to understand, create and test new and existing agency system processes for the benefit of VRS' stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
Highschool diploma or equivalent and at least six (6) months experience in technical writing, journalism or communications work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English, Communications or a related field preferred. The most qualified candidate will possess: Experience writing for multiple concurrent audiences. Excellent writing with a strong technical business writing background. Ability to grasp and explain complex policy and technical concepts clearly, to both technical and non-technical audiences. Analytical thinking with an emphasis on attention to detail. Ability to work in a rapid-development, agile environment with tight deadlines. Knowledge of tools such as Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel, Planner, Publisher, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Snag-It, and version control systems.
Hiring Range:
$28.00 - $30.00
