ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This is an unpaid internship offered for academic credit through your college or university. Applicants must be eligible to receive internship credit as part of their academic program. Hello San Diego is a local lifestyle and discovery brand that creates reels, guides, events, and stories about the best of San Diego. We share a team with Routt Home Team (real estate) and Hello Scale (a local marketing agency), giving interns the opportunity to learn across consumer content, real estate marketing, and B2B marketing. This is a teaching-focused internship . You'll learn modern content creation and digital marketing by working directly alongside professionals—not observing from the sidelines or running errands. Our goal is for you to leave with practical, transferable skills, published work for your portfolio, and experience you can confidently discuss in future interviews. You'll also learn how AI is transforming digital marketing. We teach interns how to use today's leading AI tools to brainstorm ideas, streamline workflows, improve content creation, support SEO, and increase productivity—all while maintaining authentic, human-centered marketing. One standard guides everything we create: our content should sound like a real San Diegan—never like a corporate account or a robot. You'll learn how we make that happen.
THE BASICS
Term:
Fall 2026 (one semester or two academic quarters)
Location:
In person at our San Diego office (1010 Turquoise Street), with opportunities to work throughout the city alongside the team.
Schedule:
Approximately 12 hours per week. We'll build a schedule that works with your classes.
Compensation:
Unpaid internship for academic credit only. Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university that allows them to earn internship credit. We're happy to coordinate with your school's internship office and complete any required paperwork. You'll leave with: Published portfolio pieces Hands-on experience creating professional content Modern AI and digital marketing skills Regular mentorship and feedback A professional reference/testimonial for future opportunities
HOW YOU'LL LEARN
Because this is a learning experience, expect to spend your first weeks developing skills before taking on larger projects.
You'll:
Learn our tools, workflows, and brand voice during onboarding. Work directly with experienced team members and receive regular feedback. Participate in weekly content reviews and creative discussions. See the entire content process—from idea to publication to performance analysis. Build a portfolio you can showcase in future interviews.
VIDEO EDITING & CONTENT CREATION INTERN
If you've ever wondered how raw footage becomes a video people actually stop to watch, save, and share, this internship is designed to teach you exactly that. Working across Hello San Diego, Routt Home Team, and Hello Scale, you'll learn how to transform footage into engaging short-form content and long-form YouTube videos while understanding the strategy behind every edit. What You'll Learn How to edit for retention through strong hooks, pacing, and storytelling. Professional workflows for Reels, TikToks, Shorts, and YouTube. How scripting and editing work together to create stronger content. Our content writing process, including caption strategy and hook testing. How to analyze performance data and improve future videos. How AI tools can speed up editing, brainstorming, and production workflows. What You'll Do Write scripts and develop multiple hook variations. Edit Reels, TikToks, and YouTube Shorts. Add captions, B-roll, graphics, and pacing that improve viewer retention. Write captions using our content framework. Assist with scripting and editing long-form YouTube neighborhood and community guides.
WHO YOU ARE
You may be a great fit if you: Have some editing experience with CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar software. Want hands-on experience creating content that is actually published. Are curious about why some videos perform better than others. Enjoy storytelling, social media, and digital marketing. Pay attention to details like pacing, captions, and audio. Are eligible to receive academic internship credit.
