Collaborative Arts Writer Description:
We are seeking an arts writer to support the development of narrative writing projects for our clients. These projects may include exhibition proposals, grant applications, residency statements, artist statements, bios, and other written materials that support a mid-career artist's practice. You will be assigned a specific set of artists from our roster to work with on an ongoing basis. Each artist you work with has one writing project per month included in their retainer. That project is yours to own from initial review through final delivery. When a project is assigned, you are expected to take a proactive approach: review the details, reach out to the artist via Slack to confirm the scope and any deadlines, and schedule a 1:1 call as needed. You are responsible for seeing each project through topletion and ensuring the client is satisfied with the final product. For writing that is being used for proposal submissions, you will coordinate with our submissions team as needed. You will manage your project deadlines in Airtable based on your conversations with the artist and the submissions team. Writing projects are assigned at the beginning of each month. We aim to give writers at least 10 days toplete each project, though some deadlines may be shorter. We strive to finalize all drafts within two rounds of edits. Feedback will be provided via Google Docs by the artist, and you will address and incorporate their notes through to a final draft. Writers also participate in a mandatory monthly team meeting. This is a part-time, contract position for a minimum of 5 hours per week at a starting rate of $45 per hour with a potential rate increase after six months of successful integration into the team. This role has the potential to grow.
Who We Are:
Casey Can, LLC is a full-service artist support agency built on a simple conviction: artists should be able to run their own careers, with the infrastructure to actually make that possible. Qualifications:
We are looking for someone to join our team who meets most of the following qualifications. Arts writing experience Experience with cultural grants (writing them, reviewing them, managing open calls) Experience working with artists Experience with collaborative writing via Google Docs Experience using Slack and Airtable is a plus Openness to constructive criticism of your writing Adaptable writing style - you will need to write in the voice of others and across a variety of contexts. A proven track record of successfully landing artist opportunities for yourself or others is a plus. Detail oriented Able to work on a deadline
