Job Summary:
The Author/Scholar in Residence is a part-time, contractual role of one year that contributes to the teaching life of the community through preaching, theological reflection, and occasional educational/formational offerings. This role is designed to bring thoughtful, well-formed theological perspective into the life of the church while remaining primarily engaged in work outside the congregation (writing, research, or other creative/theological projects).
Qualifications:
A mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, demonstrated through humility, integrity, and care for community. Alignment with the mission, theology, and community life of Vox Veniae. Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological training is preferred Demonstrated experience in preaching and/or teaching Active engagement in theological, academic, or creative work Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and accessibly
Duties & Responsibilities:
Preaching and Teaching Preach approximately three times per eight weeks within the community's gathering rhythm Collaborate with the pastoral team as needed to align with teaching themes and liturgical seasons Attend Teaching Team and Teaching Committee meetings Offer teaching that is clear, grounded, theologically thoughtful, and adheres to the Teaching Team agreement. Staff Participation Attend weekly staff meetings Create monthly status reports of teaching team and committee for the Navigation Team Maintain basic communication with staff regarding scheduling and teaching responsibilities Submit preaching themes, slides, etc to staff in accordance with Vox's shared leadership model External Work & Contribution Actively engage in an ongoing theological, academic, or creative project outside the church (book, research, writing, etc.) Bring insights from this work into the community in appropriate and accessible ways Workshops & Educational Offerings Host 3-4 workshops, classes, or conversations per year connected to external work Create opportunities for deeper engagement around specific theological themes
