Job Summary:
The Senior Writer/Media Relations Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating communications and public relations activities in support of the university. The writer/manager will plan and implement media relations programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image. The writer/manager will design and direct development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the university's programs, accomplishments, or point of view. The writer/manager will produce content for the university websites, newsletters, features, editorials, social media content, marketing materials and other publications. Fulfills other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Marketing, Communications and Engagement Division.

Essential Functions:
Coordinating, promoting, and facilitating communications relating to OLLU initiatives including student recruitment, fund raising and university promotion. Planning media relations campaigns and publicity strategies. Writing and producing regional and national media releases and media pitches, and responding to media inquiries. Creating and executing a regional and national media strategy promoting OLLU. Developing and pitching editorials and features in support of local, state and national visibility. Researching and uncovering compelling stories about students, faculty, programs and alumni, and developing those stories into written and/or audiovisual content in a way that speaks to donor, alumni, community and media audiences. Developing social media content and strategies to promote university initiatives and goals. Maintaining contact with key university administrators, deans, department chairs and campus leaders to develop content for print and digital marketing pieces, media pitches, social media content and other outreach efforts.
Additional Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with appropriate local, regional, and national media and other constituencies regarding university communications. Establishes and maintains regular contact with internal constituents to develop content for marketing and public relations efforts. Assists with special event production, news conferences and media photo opportunities. Works with department and school/college administrators on story development and communication strategies. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Engagement.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills. Proficiency in principles and practices of journalism, public relations, marketing, video production and Web publishing.
Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in communications or related field. Requires five years' experience in communications/public relations or news media. Master's degree preferred. Master's degree may substitute two years of experience. Portfolio required for interview.
