Job Description

Design Engineer - Applications Our client in the beautiful Chautauqua County area is in search of growing their talented Engineering team and is in search of an Applications Engineer based in Design to report into the Engineering Director .

POSITION SUMMARY
  • Collaborates with internal engineering teams and external partners to define performance requirements for complex mechanical systems, including functional performance, integration, and operating environment considerations. Utilizes CAD and related engineering tools to support the design, development, and validation of custom-engineered components and assemblies.
  • Coordinates design and testing activities to ensure products meet performance, quality, and reliability standards. Works cross-functionally with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to support successful product development and implementation.
  • Applies structured problem-solving and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance product performance and engineering processes. Actively supports quality, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring alignment with internal systems and industry best practices.
  • Provides additional technical and project support responsibilities as needed.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders to define performance and functional requirements for complex mechanical systems using standard engineering tools and software.
  • Develop detailed designs, models, and drawings for mechanical components and assemblies using 2D and 3D CAD tools; perform simulation and analysis as needed to support design validation.
  • Coordinate design, development, and validation activities for systems and sub-systems, ensuring alignment with performance, quality, and reliability expectations.
  • Establish product specifications, testing criteria, and validation plans to support successful product development and launch.
  • Lead or support design reviews throughout the development lifecycle to ensure design integrity and readiness for production.
  • Partner with suppliers, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, cost, and overall product quality.
  • Apply structured engineering and reliability methodologies, including risk assessment, functional analysis, and validation planning, to support robust product design.
  • Ensure adherence to internal procedures, engineering standards, and applicable regulatory or quality requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of new concepts and design improvements for engineered products and systems. Authority
  • Operates with a level of decision-making authority appropriate to the role, as defined by engineering leadership.
A STRONG CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
  • Experience developing mechanical components or assemblies from concept through production
  • Exposure to design validation, testing, or performance analysis
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and suppliers
  • Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, assembly, etc.)
  • Solid problem-solving skills and ability to apply structured engineering methodologies
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 2-4 years of experience in mechanical design or product development within a manufacturing environment
SALARY:
  • Salary for this direct hire position will be commensurate with experience in the $75-85K negotiable based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, education and other position related components.
In addition, the compensation package will also a competitive benefits package, as well as room for growth and advancement, etc.
