Job Description

Category Schools - Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing Job Type Contract Make a real difference for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by supporting their educational journey and communication needs. This contract opportunity is based near Smyrna, GA, offering the chance to work collaboratively with educational teams and families to ensure every student reaches their full potential.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education or eligibility to obtain appropriate certification Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an educational setting strongly preferred Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with assistive hearing technology Strong collaboration skills for working with general education teachers, administrators, and student support staff Ability to assess student needs and adapt instructional strategies accordingly Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Develop materials and lessons that promote access to the general curriculum Facilitate communication and interaction among students, staff, and families, supporting full participation in classroom activities Track and document student progress, writing clear reports, and participating in IEP meetings Consult with classroom teachers and related service providers regarding modifications and accommodations Promote self-advocacy skills, social-emotional growth, and independence for students Stepping into this role means advocating for accessibility, inclusion, and equitable learning.
