Railserve is hiring dependable, safety-focused Locomotive Mechanics based out of Decatur, IL to support maintenance and repair of our locomotive fleet across multiple sites in the region. Railserve.com Job Description In this role, you will perform both scheduled and emergency maintenance on locomotives, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and support safe, efficient operations across multiple customer locations. Company tools and a company vehicle are provided. If you have strong mechanical experience and enjoy hands-on problem solving, variety in your work environment, and traveling to different sites, this role may be a great fit.
Schedule:
Full-time; schedule varies based on operational needs and travel requirements
Compensation:
$26.00 - $30.00 per hour (based on experience) Duties Travel to multiple sites to perform locomotive maintenance and repairs Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on locomotives (Gen-Set, SW, GP units) Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues Communicate with customers regarding maintenance status, issues, and upcoming work Maintain accurate records including preventative maintenance logs, invoices, and reports Ensure proper handling and disposal of environmental materials (oil, fuel, etc.) Conduct safety inspections on equipment in accordance with company standards Identify and recommend safety improvements and corrective actions Follow all company safety procedures and wear required PPE Perform additional duties as assigned Job Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred) Strong mechanical experience required; electrical experience preferred Ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment Valid driver's license required Ability to operate cutting torch and welding equipment Willingness and ability to travel frequently across the region Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers Ability to work outdoors and in varying environments Ability to lift, carry, and handle tools and equipment Additional Information Frequent travel is required for this role Company vehicle and tools provided Work is performed outdoors and in industrial environments Exposure to moving equipment, fuels, and mechanical systems Must comply with all safety and environmental procedures What We Offer (Benefits) Railserve is committed to being an Employer of Choice, offering competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package: Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage Company-paid employee and dependent life insurance Company-paid sickness and accident income 401(k) with company match Annual safety shoe reimbursement Prescription safety wear Holiday pay Vacation Marmon employee discount program Company-provided tools Company-provided service truck Work Environment Outdoor industrial work environment Exposure to locomotives, heavy equipment, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions Moderate to heavy physical labor required Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, bending, and lifting Position may require regional travel throughout Alabama and surrounding areas Safety-sensitive position requiring strict compliance with company and customer safety procedures Grow With Us Don't worry if you don't meet every qualification.
