Job Title:
Diesel Technician - Heavy Equipment Job Description This role involves maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment such as dozers, water trucks, and skid steers at an active job site. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose mechanical and hydraulic issues, and complete repairs to keep equipment safe, reliable, and operating efficiently in outdoor field conditions. Responsibilities Inspect heavy equipment such as dozers, water trucks, skid steers, and other construction machinery to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and structural issues. Perform routine maintenance, including greasing, fueling, fluid checks, filter changes, and general servicing to ensure reliable operation. Diagnose and troubleshoot diesel engine problems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components using appropriate tools and methods. Repair and replace parts such as hoses, belts, filters, hydraulic lines, fittings, and other wear components as needed. Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations to minimize equipment downtime. Work on heavy equipment brands such as Bobcat, Caterpillar, and Komatsu, ensuring proper operation and adherence to specifications. Support civil dirt and earthmoving operations by keeping equipment in safe and optimal working condition. Document maintenance and repair work accurately, including parts used and services performed. Operate equipment as needed for testing, verification of repairs, and basic functional checks. Follow safety procedures and site rules while working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance priorities clearly with supervisors and team members. Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment responsibly. Essential Skills Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment such as dozers, water trucks, and skid steers. Strong background in diesel engines, including troubleshooting and repair. Experience working with heavy equipment brands such as Bobcat, Caterpillar (CAT), and Komatsu. Proficiency in hydraulic systems, including inspecting, repairing, and replacing hydraulic lines and components. Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and resolving issues in engines, drivetrains, and related systems. Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial or construction equipment. Ability to work safely and effectively in outdoor environments with exposure to the elements. Flexibility to work a Monday-Saturday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the ability to adjust to schedule changes as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications back ground in civil dirt or earthmoving operations, including familiarity with equipment operation and maintenance. Experience in industrial maintenance and repair environments. Ability to operate heavy equipment for testing and verification of repairs. Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication skills to coordinate with field teams and supervisors. Attention to detail and a focus on equipment reliability and safety. Why Work Here? You will work around heavy construction equipment such as dozers, water trucks, skid steers, and other earthmoving machinery. The typical schedule is Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the need for flexibility as hours are subject to change based on project demands. Work involves hands-on mechanical and hydraulic tasks, use of standard tools and equipment, and adherence to site safety practices and appropriate work attire suitable for outdoor construction environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Waterflow, NM. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
