Job Title:
Dietary Worker Job Description The dietary worker supports hospital food service operations by preparing and serving meals for patients, cafeteria guests, and special functions. This role includes food preparation, tray assembly, dishwashing, and general kitchen sanitation to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Responsibilities Prepare food for patients, the cafeteria, and special functions following established recipes and procedures. Assemble patient meal trays accurately and in a timely manner according to individual requests and therapeutic diet orders. Serve cafeteria customers promptly and courteously, maintaining a high level of hospitality. Handle cash accurately and operate the cash register for cafeteria transactions. Perform dishwashing duties, including loading, operating, and unloading dishwashing equipment. Carry out utility and janitorial tasks such as cleaning, mopping, sweeping, and sanitizing work areas, equipment, and surfaces. Support food production and kitchen prep activities, including basic food handling, food prep, and cooking tasks as assigned. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in all food service and work areas. Follow established techniques and procedures to complete duties efficiently and in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. Use custodial and kitchen equipment properly and safely according to guidelines. Adhere to scheduled shifts, arriving on time and maintaining satisfactory attendance in line with time and attendance expectations. Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays, as required by operational needs. Essential Skills Ability to perform cleaning, mopping, sweeping, and general janitorial duties. Ability to sanitize food service areas, equipment, and utensils according to established standards. Basic foodservice skills, including food handling, food preparation, and food production support. Ability to perform dishwashing tasks and operate dishwashing equipment safely. Capability to assist with kitchen prep and line cook support activities. Basic cash handling skills and ability to operate a cash register accurately. Knowledge of proper and safe use of applicable custodial equipment. Ability to learn and use established techniques for efficient and compliant completion of duties. Willingness to be open to learning and growing in the role. Appropriate maturity of judgment and consistently high standards for work areas and personal appearance. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Ability to comply with required dress code. Reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts. No previous experience required; ability to learn on the job. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in hospitality or foodservice environments is beneficial. Prior exposure to hospital food service or healthcare settings is an advantage. Comfort working in both a modern cafe area and an older kitchen environment. Strong customer service mindset when interacting with patients and cafeteria guests. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. Why Work Here? The schedule may include nights, weekends, and some holidays to support patient and cafeteria meal service. A defined dress code applies, and you must comply with all appearance and uniform requirements. The setting emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and consistent sanitation practices in all food preparation and service areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond Heights, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
