Job Description
Step into the Director of Laboratory role in a forward-thinking rural hospital where innovation, impact, and community pride meet 🔬🏥.
The Laboratory Services Director will join a respected rural health system recognized with quality and patient-safety accolades, community philanthropy, and top-tier caregiver satisfaction scores. Powered by advanced analyzers, middleware, and data-driven decision support, the Clinical Laboratory Director leads a modern diagnostics enterprise built for speed, accuracy, and value. This organization invests in cutting-edge technologies and continuous improvement, recently expanding automation and connectivity to enhance turnaround times and stewardship. In this environment, the Director of Laboratory helps shape strategy that improves outcomes across the continuum.
As part of a full-service rural hospital, the Director of Clinical Laboratory oversees core lab operations supporting emergency, inpatient, swing-bed, and outpatient services. The Lab Director guides chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, and transfusion services while championing point-of-care testing across affiliated clinics. Integrated electronic test ordering, barcoding, and robust QC programs promote standardization and reliability across the enterprise. With pragmatic staffing models, cross-training, and resilient supply-chain practices, the Laboratory Services Director keeps essential diagnostics available around the clock. This rural hospital setting values compassionate bedside collaboration, enabling the Director of Laboratory to see measurable impact on patient care every day.
Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the Director of Laboratory provides administrative and clinical leadership for staff across biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and phlebotomy, including oversight of an Assistant Manager. Responsibilities span interviewing and hiring, onboarding and in‑services, performance evaluations and coaching, and, when necessary, separation decisions, all aligned with established hospital policies and continuous quality improvement. The Laboratory Services Director ensures accurate, cost-conscious, and timely testing, recognizes results warranting referral to the Clinical Laboratory Pathologist, maintains regulatory and accreditation readiness, and advances patient-safety practices that minimize errors.
The Director of Laboratory will thrive in a welcoming small-town region known for big-sky sunsets, river walks, and scenic bluffs that invite hiking, cycling, fishing, birding, and star‑gazing. Local culture shines through seasonal festivals, live concerts, community athletics, farmers markets, and volunteer events that make it easy to build lasting connections. A four-season climate with abundant sunshine, short commutes, and an affordable cost of living supports a balanced lifestyle with room to roam. This setting offers the scale and serenity many Laboratory Services Directors seek, paired with the professional growth only a high-impact rural hospital can deliver.
The Lab Director will receive competitive compensation. To explore how this mission-driven rural hospital empowers a Director of Laboratory, connect today with a Clinical Management Consultants recruiter to learn more about this opportunity ✨.
