Job Description

Description of Job Duty:
The Director of Campus Safety is responsible for ensuring that policies, systems, and processes are in place to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and continuity of operations of the University in cases of emergencies on campus. The position works with university administration to identify and prioritize goals and objectives of Campus Safety and works with departments, units, and individuals in implementing emergency planning priorities. Oversees University Police Department, Environmental Health & Safety and liaison to Putnam County Emergency Management Agency related to campus emergency management. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field, such as, emergency management, environmental health & safety, criminal justice, etc. with at least ten years of related professional experience. Additional experience can be substituted for the degree requirement if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Incident Command System training certificate for upper-level incident training is preferred.
Essential Functions:
Supervision of Environmental Health & Safety Office. Which includes efforts to keep the campus population safe in the daily work environment through programs of information and education, review and monitoring, and technical consultation. EHS is also responsible for developing programs to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations and campus policies on environmental health and safety. Additional areas of responsibility include hazardous materials, environmental management as well as injury and illness prevention. Supervision of University Police Department. Which includes maintaining a safe campus environment conducive to learning through law enforcement, utilizing evidence-based strategies to reduce crime on campus, and providing crime prevention and safety education to the campus community. Serves as University liaison to Putnam County Emergency Management Agency related to campus emergency management. Responds to and directs university response to emergency situations campus wide as they arise. Requires the employee to be on call. Serves as University liaison to local, state, and national agencies, including but not limited to Putnam County Emergency Management Agency, City of Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee Department of Health, and all other partner agencies required to affect a safe and secure campus. Develops, plans, leads, and participates in educational training and outreach activities to include program development and presentation of lectures and workshops that enables and empowers University faculty and staff to act in an emergency in accordance with the University's Emergency Operations Plan. Remains up to date with current trends and requirements in emergency management and campus safety. Plans, develops, and implements emergency management programs and related initiatives for the University in accordance with National, state, and local emergency preparedness requirements and standards.
Physical Demands:
Walking, standing, sitting, travel and physical ability to handle emergency situations.

Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience. Level M4, Grade 17.
