Job Description
is Position Summary The Director of Clinical Services is a senior leadership role responsible for supporting clinical operations, patient care standards, and clinical workflow coordination across Catskill Veterinary Services. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this individual collaborates closely with hospital and organizational leadership to support operational growth, clinical excellence, staff development, and high-quality patient care. This role helps bridge clinical teams, hospital operations, and executive leadership to promote consistency, accountability, and compassionate patient-centered care throughout the organization. Core Responsibilities Executive Leadership & Organizational Strategy Serve as an active member of the Catskill Veterinary Services Executive Leadership Team Participate in organizational planning, operational development, and leadership initiatives Support long-term clinical growth, workflow development, and operational scalability Collaborate with leadership regarding staffing, systems, infrastructure, and expansion initiatives Promote alignment between organizational goals, patient care standards, and team development Clinical Operations & Patient Care Leadership Direct and synchronize clinical operations across all facility sites Standardize patient care benchmarks, operational workflows, and medical protocols Foster collaboration between veterinary staff and department heads to optimize patient flow and communication Cultivate an environment dedicated to clinical excellence, safety, and compassionate care Pinpoint operational bottlenecks and implement effective workflow enhancements Facilitate the expansion and incorporation of specialized medical services Team Leadership & Professional Development Lead, mentor, and support clinical team members across departments and locations Support development of leadership pathways for Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and department leaders Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and positive workplace culture Identify training opportunities and support onboarding, coaching, and staff development initiatives Assist leadership teams with communication, conflict resolution, and performance development May provide direct or indirect supervision to clinical department leaders and clinical support personnel Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance Promote high standards of patient care, nursing support, monitoring, and medical documentation Support development and implementation of SOPs, treatment protocols, and hospital standards Monitor compliance with OSHA, infection control standards, controlled substance regulations, and hospital policies Participate in quality assurance initiatives and workflow improvement projects Support inspection readiness and regulatory compliance efforts Promote accurate, timely, and complete medical record documentation Communication & Interdepartmental Coordination Facilitate alignment and collaboration between the Executive Leadership Team, clinical teams, and leaders across the practice to support a unified "One Practice" approach. Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments and hospital locations Support implementation of organizational initiatives, workflow changes, and operational improvements Assist with staffing coordination, workflow planning, and clinical resource management Support operational efficiency through effective staffing utilization, workflow coordination, and process improvement initiatives Support implementation and utilization of electronic medical record systems and hospital technology platforms Performance Standards & Accountability Maintains a professional, visible, and approachable leadership presence throughout the organization Demonstrates strong organizational leadership, communication, professionalism, and decision-making Promotes a culture centered around patient safety, teamwork, accountability, and compassion Maintains compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements Supports retention, engagement, and professional development of clinical team members Effectively prioritizes and manages multiple operational responsibilities in a fast-paced environment Contributes to improvements in workflow efficiency, communication, training consistency, and patient care quality Maintains confidentiality, professionalism, and collaborative working relationships across the organization Scope & Limitations The Director of Clinical Services functions as a clinical operations and leadership role and does not independently diagnose, prescribe, perform surgery, or practice veterinary medicine unless separately licensed and credentialed to do so. This role is expected to operate within all applicable New York State veterinary and healthcare regulations, including supervision and delegation requirements for clinical staff. Final medical decision-making authority remains with the attending veterinarian and medical leadership team. QualificationsRequired Bachelor's degree or equivalent progressive healthcare, veterinary, or clinical leadership experience required Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Nurse (RN), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), or equivalent medical training strongly preferred Minimum of 5 years of progressive healthcare, veterinary, or clinical leadership experience Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a medical or healthcare environment Strong understanding of clinical operations, workflow management, and patient care standards Exceptional communication, leadership, delegation, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and healthcare technology platforms Preferred Experience in emergency, specialty, urgent care, or multi-location healthcare environments Experience with OSHA, infection control, controlled substance compliance, or regulatory oversight Experience with staff development, leadership training, or operational growth initiatives Experience in veterinary healthcare strongly preferred Experience participating in executive leadership or organizational planning initiatives preferred Required Skills & Attributes Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Ability to motivate, develop, and lead teams with empathy High emotional intelligence, professionalism, and accountability Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills Excellent organization, multitasking, and follow-through Professional conflict management and sound judgment Patient-centered mindset and ability to maintain confidentiality Resilience in fast-paced healthcare environments Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical environments for extended periods Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation Exposure to anesthetic gases, cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, and zoonotic disease risks Ability to work effectively within medical, surgical, ICU, and emergency care environments Comfort with emotionally challenging situations, including emergency care, critical patients, and end-of-life care Ability to travel between hospital locations Compensation, Schedule & Work Setting Competitive hourly compensation based on experience, credentials, and leadership background Leadership-level benefits package available Primarily on-site leadership role across multiple hospital locations Travel between locations required Schedule flexibility is required to support operational and clinical leadership responsibilities Overtime eligibility and classification determined in accordance with applicable wage and hour regulations Accountability Statement All employees of Catskill Veterinary Services are expected to uphold the organization's standards of professionalism, teamwork, patient advocacy, client service, and operational excellence.
