Lending / Credit Services Position Summary The Director of Credit Services provides enterprise-level leadership for all credit and underwriting functions at Allegius Federal Credit Union. This role oversees Credit Managers and lending team members to ensure lending practices are safe, sound, fair, and compliant, while supporting sustainable loan growth aligned with the Credit Union's strategic goals. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Credit Services serves as a strategic partner and advisor on credit risk, portfolio performance, regulatory compliance, and lending strategy. This role plays a key part in safeguarding Credit Union assets, strengthening operational effectiveness, and delivering a consistent, inclusive, and member-centered lending experience across all channels. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & People Management Lead, support, and empower our team of Credit Managers, lending team members, and Member Resolutions team members (collections) through clear direction, shared goals, and regular feedback Establish underwriting standards and performance expectations that promote consistency, equity, and accountability Serve as an executive escalation point for complex or higher-risk credit decisions Conduct and oversee performance evaluations with a focus on development, engagement, and continuous learning Partner with and advise the CEO on credit risk, portfolio trends, and lending performance Lending & Portfolio Oversight Guide growth of a high-quality loan portfolio aligned with the Credit Union's risk appetite and long-term strategy Ensure underwriting decisions are consistent, fair, and member-focused across all branches and delivery channels Monitor portfolio performance, delinquency, and key risk indicators; recommend and implement corrective actions as appropriate Balance members' needs with the Credit Union's financial strength, sustainability, and regulatory responsibilities Operational Excellence Oversee lending workflows, systems, and vendor relationships to support efficiency, accuracy, and a positive team and member experience Identify opportunities to enhance processes and technology, including core lending platforms and third-party vendors Collaborate with executive leadership on the rollout of new lending products, services, and operational initiatives Ensure appropriate staffing, cross-training, and coverage to support continuity and work-life balance Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, Credit Union policies, and loan policy guidelines Maintain strong working knowledge of BSA, OFAC, AML, NMLS, and related regulatory requirements Promote consistent, well-documented, and equitable compliance practices across lending and credit teams Register for and maintain Mortgage Loan Originator licensure through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS), as required Training, Development & Knowledge Sharing Identify training needs and support ongoing development for Credit Managers and lending staff at all career stages Foster growth in underwriting expertise, regulatory knowledge, and member service excellence Collaborate with leadership to support training and evaluation of Member Relations Specialists (MRS), as needed Encourage knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement across the team Collaboration & Decision Support Partner closely with Branch Managers, and executive leadership to support integrated decision-making Serve as a primary point of contact for loan-related escalations, questions, and strategic discussions Other Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Credit Union's mission, values, and strategic objectives Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field / equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in lending, underwriting, or credit management (flexibility considered based on depth and breadth of experience) Leadership or people management experience preferred; experience mentoring or leading teams in informal or formal settings is valued Experience within a credit union or financial institution is strongly preferred Licenses & Certifications Ability to obtain and maintain NMLS registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Strong knowledge of consumer and mortgage lending, underwriting practices, and credit risk management Solid understanding of regulatory requirements affecting credit union lending Effective decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate complex credit concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and frontline teams Collaborative leadership style with strengths in coaching, adaptability, and change management Why Join Allegius Federal Credit Union Allegius Federal Credit Union is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace where team members of all backgrounds, identities, and career stages can thrive.
