RUSSELL COUNTY SCHOOLS DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION 6-12/ CAREER TECH JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Master's degree from an accredited educational institution. (2) Certification in Educational Leadership or Administration and Supervision. (3) Successful classroom teaching experience and staff-level experience. (4) School-level administrative and supervisory experience preferred. (5) Three years successful experience in a career and technical subject area and/or supervisory leadership over a CTE program preferred. (6) Demonstrated experience creating and/or facilitating high school, industry, college and community partnerships fostering CTE programs. (7) Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of national and state curriculum initiatives and applicable state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of research, current trends, and best practices related to curriculum and instruction. Ability to read, and interpret professional materials, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to provide leadership in planning, training and production of curriculum material, processes and best practices that are evaluated and highly effective in improving instruction and student academic outcomes. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in related fields. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Exemplary written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact and work with people. Knowledge of technical educational programs. Must be able to work collaboratively with business and industry; to coordinate, implement, promote, encourage and evaluate career/technical programs from a visionary perspective; to establish and to maintain operating standards required by the State Board of Education. Administrative Assistant, District Reading CoachesCURRICULUM PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Serve as instructional supervisor for elementary 6-12 students. (2) Maintain and promote the goal of improving student achievement by ensuring that all students achieve the state content and performance standards. (3) Guide development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instructional, and assessment practices and procedures. (4) Analyze and use student assessment data from all sources as well as staff needs assessment data to guide teaching. (5) Collaborate closely, in a united fashion with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction K-6 in carrying out all performance responsibilities. (6) Visit schools and meet with principals regularly (individually and as a group). (7) Create and implement a yearly instructional plan for the district and oversee the development of school improvement plans. (8) Develop and oversee the Russell County COGNIA Process (9) Oversee the effectiveness and direction of district and school-based reading coaches. (10) Educate principals to accurately and effectively utilize available technology and other data resources to develop a needs assessment and improvement plan for their assigned school. (11) Use creativity and insights to develop strategies to promote holistic student ownership of learning to include active engagement, understanding, describing and accomplishing high-quality work on a consistent basis. (12) Create and maintain a professional development program. (13) Handle parent concerns pertaining to curriculum and instruction. (14) Research new programs and ideas and participate in professional development to stay abreast of new strategies for student and staff achievement. (15) Organize District Professional Development (16) Write and maintain grants to enhance the instructional program. (17) Organize district academic events. (18) Serve as liaison between universities and system for placement of interns and practicum students. (19) Lead revisions of board policies pertaining to instruction. (20) Take a lead role in encouraging and developing a system of support to guide teachers in becoming national board certified. (21) Participate in functions (board meetings, work sessions, school events) to promote teamwork and support from central leadership team. (22) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. (23) Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. (24) Serve on system, state, or community councils or committees as assigned or appropriate. (25) Assist principals with district adopted evaluation plan for certified employees. (26) Work closely with system and school staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processes. (27) Keep informed and disseminate information about current research trends and best practices in areas of responsibility. (28) Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas. (29) Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues. (30) Represent the system in a positive and professional manner. (31) Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records. (32) Develop annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of system goals and priorities. (33) Assist in implementing the system's goals and strategic commitment. (34) Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services, and evaluation of services provided. (35) Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment, and facilitate task accomplishment. (36) May be required to work beyond the 40-hour week. (37) Perform other tasks or duties consistent with the goals and objectives of this position or as assigned by Superintendent.CAREER TECH PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Facilitate the articulation of community and manpower needs into meaningful career/technical programs. (2) Work closely with state agencies to manage and maintain CTE program accreditation. (3) Prepare a strategic plan for career/technical education. (4) Work with appropriate state agencies for approval and financial support of new career/technical programs. (5) Explain goals and scope of career/technical education to school administration and others. (6) Create and maintain a professional development program. (7) Work closely with teacher education institutions and state staff to develop effective programs at pre-service and in-service levels. (8) Ensure that career/technical teachers attend professional development conference and workshops and that technical update hours are earned. (9) Counsel with teachers concerning achievement and challenges. (10) Require teachers to acquire skills to keep pace with technological advancements in the program area. (11) Ensure CTE teachers are thoroughly abreast on the requirements for certification in their program area. (12) Keep teachers informed of effective teaching methodology and current literature for best practices. (13) Guide the development of program to implement goals and objectives based on labor market demands. (14) Define and articulate goals and objectives for programs within the school system. (15) Establish admission criterial for programs. (16) Work with counselors to determine students' interests and aptitudes for course work within programs. (17) Ensure maintenance of student records and files. (18) Require and facilitate active student organizations. (19) Develop techniques to involve the community in school activities. (20) Provide a system for positive public relations. (21) Collect, organize, analyze and interpret data concerning the performance of students and former students. (22) Conduct research projects for improving programs. (23) Prepare proposals for grants at local, state and federal levels. (24) Develop plans to provide summer and part-time jobs opportunities for students. (24) Coordinate and implement internships in career/technical programs. (25) Be active in and promote career/technical education with professional/civil organizations. (26) Facilitate, assist, and maintain business/industry certifications of all career technical programs. (27) Inform and support the teachers, school system in insuring the requirements for the Carl Perkins Grant are met. (28) Promote and facilitate adult career technical education. (29) Work closely with system and school staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processes. (30) Keep informed and disseminate information about current research trends and best practices in areas of responsibility. (31) Identify long-range needs for facilities, equipment and supplies for programs. (32) Evaluate facilities and equipment annually. (33) Maintain up-to-date inventory of all equipment to include recommendations for repair or replacement. (34) Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues. (35) Represent the system in a positive and professional manner. (36) Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records. (37) Develop annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of system goals and priorities.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.EVALUATION
