Central Officce -Admin IV FLSA Statu s: Exempt Nature of Work Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction, the Director of Elementary Education will provide leadership and direction in the ongoing planning, implementation, development, review, and evaluation of the district's elementary curriculum and instructional services. The Director ensures that the district's curriculum and instruction priorities are aligned to state standards and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Directs curriculum development and instructional programs and services (K-5) for the school system Evaluates and continuously improves the effectiveness of the Curriculum and Instruction services by operationalizing the division's strategic plan, Strategically aligns budgetary resources to the division's strategic plan, Facilitates the development and evaluation of curriculum resources, Participates in the interview and selection process of the instructional staff as appropriate, Supervises and evaluates curriculum and instruction staff as directed, Facilitates, supervises, and evaluates other division directors., Builds the capacity in school leaders of the district through professional curriculum and instructional leadership development, and Remains current on North Carolina Department of Public Instruction policies/processes and North Carolina General Assembly legislation that impacts curriculum and instruction Attends Principal Meetings, Board Work Sessions, and Board Meetings (as needed). Upon request, prepares reports for the Board, formulates proposals for revision and development of Board policies related to curriculum and instruction Provides leadership in facilitating achievement of the system's mission and goals for teacher professional learning and student achievement Facilitates the development and continuous improvement of curriculum and instructional services, Investigates initial concerns and reports of K-5 schools. Attends and actively participates in professional meetings and conferences at the local, regional, state, and national levels, Reports periodically to the Board of Education on curriculum and instruction matters as directed by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction Designs processes for collaborating and partnering between schools, school systems, state and local agencies, and the community, Conducts program evaluation for curriculum and instructional service areas as directed, Prepares and maintains files, records, and reports in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines Performs other duties as necessary or requested by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction to improve or enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of programs, operations, and processes in the system Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations governing North Carolina public schools Considerable skill in utilizing technology as a tool for efficiency, productivity, and curriculum delivery, professional development, and content creation Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and the federal role in public education to include exceptional children and 504 programs Knowledge of NCStar school improvement process tool Knowledge of principles, procedures and practices of public school administration Knowledge of personnel and management principles, practices, and strategies as they related to the administration of student support, policy development, employee relations, and related services Compliance with confidentiality requirements and ethical guidelines for local state and federal rules, policies, and statutes Ability to research program documents and narrative materials, and to compile reports from research Ability to review documents for accuracy of information, grammar, style, punctuation and vocabulary Ability to maintain complex schedules, records and files Ability to maintain confidential information Ability to develop and modify work procedures, methods and processes to improve efficiency Ability to type accurately at a moderate rate of speed Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with school officials, elected officials and the general public Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments Education and Experience Master's Degree in education or related field required, Five (5) years supervisory/administrative experience required Elementary and/or Secondary principal experience required Demonstrated proficiency and experience in planning, facilitating, and leading professional development
Certification and Licensure Requirements:

School Administrator:
Principal or 0113: Curriculum Instructional Specialist Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting and speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a very quiet location or classroom (e.g. office). Special Requirements Valid driver's license.
