PERSONNEL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
May 15, 2026 Director of Elementary Schools
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To provide leadership and assistance to elementary school principals and elementary teachers in the development and execution of instructional programs that are designed to accomplish the instructional goals and objectives of the school division.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Holds a Masters degree from an accredited college or university and a Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12, or as an elementary school supervisor, or as an elementary school principal. 2. Has, within the past ten years, a minimum of five successful years of experience as a teacher, principal, administrator or supervisor. At least three years shall have been as an elementary school principal or assistant principal. 3. Demonstrates the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, citizens, the superintendent of schools, and community agencies.
REPORTS TO
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Communicates a clear vision of instructional excellence and continual improvement that are consistent with school division goals. 2. Coordinates the development and implementation of the division's elementary curriculum. 3. Monitors and evaluates elementary school instructional programs and achievement of division goals and objectives. 4. Gathers and analyzes data and makes program and curriculum decisions and recommendations based on the data. 5. Plans and coordinates curriculum development workshops and related training. 6. Coordinates the development of curriculum materials and instructional packages. 7. Acts as a liaison with national, state and community agencies as related to the elementary program. 8. Assists in the planning and implementation of the elementary school testing program. 9. Coordinates special elementary school funding programs such as the Virginia Literacy Act, Federal Title Programs, the Virginia Preschool Initiative, Class Size Reduction, etc. 10. Recommends and facilitates the acquisition of instructional materials and equipment for use in the elementary schools. 11. Assists in the articulation of the K-12 instructional program, including ELL and Gifted. 12. Keeps abreast of current educational trends and programs for elementary schools. 13. Coordinates textbook adoption for elementary schools. 14. Coordinates and supervises accreditation activities for the division's elementary schools. 15. Helps to implement a systematic plan for classroom supervision. 16. Prepares reports on the effectiveness and efficiency of the elementary instructional program. 17. Recommends needed changes in the elementary instructional program. 18. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisor(s).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month contract. Salary to be established by the school board.

Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for evaluation of supervisory personnel.
