Job Summary We are seeking a Director of Operations to join our growing team and well-established customer and employee focused company. The Director of Operations leads, structures, and optimizes the Field Operations function of Fluid Waste Services, ensuring the company operates safely, efficiently, and at scale. The position owns overall field operations performance, including utilization of crews, equipment, and resources. The scope of this role is broad and cross-functional, requiring a strong understanding of field execution, fleet utilization, workforce planning, safety, estimating, and customer delivery. It provides strategic oversight across field operations, including direct leadership of key operations team members, while working closely with Sales, Finance, and other departments to align demand with operational capacity and execution. This position reports directly to the CEO and serves as a key member of the company's senior leadership team. This role does not manage daily dispatch or individual job execution. Instead, it focuses on improving structure, developing leaders, and building systems that support consistent, scalable performance. Ideal candidates have experience building and significantly improving how operations run, not just managing within an existing system. Key Responsibilities 1. Operations Leadership Lead, manage, and hold accountable key operations leaders Design and improve the operations structure, including clear reporting lines, roles, and responsibilities Establish effective layers of supervision that support consistent execution without constant escalation Develop leaders and strengthen performance across teams 2. Utilization & Capacity Planning Own utilization of trucks, crews, and service lines Translate sales demand into practical capacity plans across staffing, fleet, and scheduling Plan for growth, including fleet additions, retirements, and workforce needs Adjust plans based on seasonality, demand shifts, and operational constraints Identify and manage the primary constraints limiting operational flow 3. Process & Operational Efficiency Own and improve core operational processes (dispatch logic, project handoffs, planning workflows) Ensure processes are documented, understood, and consistently followed Reduce inefficiencies, rework, and operational friction through better system design Build scalable systems that support consistent execution and company growth 4. Performance & Continuous Improvement Define and track key operational performance metrics (utilization, efficiency, downtime, rework) Lead regular operations reviews focused on trends, patterns, and root causes Use data to identify systemic issues and implement long-term improvements Improve and drive consistency and predictability across operations 5. Cross-Functional Leadership Collaborate with Sales to align demand, pricing, and customer needs with operational capacity Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning Work across departments to improve overall business performance Qualifications •
Education:
o Bachelor's degree in business, operations, construction management, or a related field preferred o Equivalent experience including military service with demonstrated logistics, transportation, or field operations leadership (e.g., transportation officer, logistics NCO, or an equivalent role managing assets, crews, and operational tempo at scale) •Experience:
o Proven experience leading operations in a field-based, asset-heavy business o Proven track record of building and scaling operations teams and structure •Skills:
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish, build, and keep trust with team and customers o Strong leadership and decision-making ability o Ability to balance day-to-day realities with long-term planning o Strong problem-solving, organizational skills and time-management skills o Ability to manage daily realities with longer-term operational planning and improvement o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business software tools •Culture Fit:
