MariMed Inc. is seeking a Director of Laboratory Operations who will be responsible for assisting the Operations Director and COO with planning and overseeing manufacturing within the company. The Director of Laboratory Operations will be responsible for aligning corporate directives and initiatives, ensuring the required level of quality, safety, and service is achieved by holding the staff accountable. The Director of Laboratory Operations will assist in facility design, equipment selection, product formulation, identifying and tracking KPIs established by executive management and will be responsible for ensuring brand and product alignment. Additionally, this role will be directly involved in managing safety programs and compliance, ensuring all state and local regulations are followed. This position will also work closely with the R D team to help bring new product initiatives alive.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Decision-Making:
Collaborate closely with the Operations Director and COO on strategic operational decisions for cannabis and hemp-infused product extraction and manufacturing.
Product and Process Development:
Assist in product and process development, including equipment selection and installation in collaboration with vendors and partners.
Production and Sourcing Management:
Develop and manage daily, weekly, and long-term production and sourcing schedules with Market Managers and GMs to meet company needs.
KPI Development and Monitoring:
Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor operational efficiency of manufacturing programs and staff.
Procurement and Vendor Management:
Oversee procurement of ingredients, raw materials, and packaging; coordinate material and resource allocation with the Procurement team. Manage vendor relationships to ensure quality and reliability of supplies and services.
Operational Planning and Monitoring:
Monitor and plan manufacturing operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.
Staff Management and Development:
Participate in hiring, training, and holding lab management accountable to company standards.
Reporting and Compliance:
Reconcile and report daily, weekly, and long-term production data to meet company standards and compliance requirements. Ensure compliance with cGMP regulations, local and state governing bodies, OSHA, and other relevant worker safety regulations. Comply with state tracking systems for cannabis products.
Performance Evaluation and Regulatory Compliance:
Evaluate operational and staff performance through data analysis. Partner with technology, quality, and compliance teams to ensure efficient regulatory compliance for all manufacturing activities.
ERP and QMS Utilization:
Ensure effective utilization of ERP and QMS systems to maintain consistent product quality and high-quality control standards.
Organizational Communication:
Engage with all levels of the organization, professionally relate to a diverse environment, and facilitate training and buy-in from staff.
Essential Skills:
Detail-Oriented and Organized:
High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Proficiency:
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables). Proficiency in general chemistry formulation and pharmacy compounding equations.
Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:
Strong understanding of cGMP regulations, OSHA, and local/state regulatory requirements.
Negotiation and Communication Skills:
Effective negotiation skills with vendors and strong interpersonal communication skills.
Adaptability:
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and business needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale manufacturing operations.
  • Background in cannabis, hemp, pharmaceuticals, or related industries preferred.
  • Experience with ERP and QMS systems and regulatory compliance in manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve manufacturing objectives related to volume, cost, and quality.
