Job Description

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities. The DON ensures that the highest degree of quality care is maintained for residents while promoting regulatory compliance, staff competency, and effective clinical outcomes.
REQUIREMENTS
Must have an unincumbered RN License in the state of Mississippi . At least 5 years experience in Long Term Care with 3 years of supervisory experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Leadership Direct and oversee all nursing services within the facility. Ensure delivery of quality nursing care consistent with physician orders, care plans, and regulatory standards. Monitor resident care outcomes and implement corrective actions when necessary. Oversee development and implementation of comprehensive care plans. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state long-term care regulations. Maintain readiness for state surveys and audits. Investigate and respond to complaints, incidents, and reportable events. Implement policies and procedures that support regulatory compliance and quality measures. Staff Management Recruit, hire, train, and supervise nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Schedule staff to maintain appropriate staffing levels. Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and disciplinary action when necessary. Promote staff development through education and training. Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Participate in and lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities. Monitor clinical indicators such as falls, infections, pressure injuries, hospital readmissions, and medication errors. Implement performance improvement plans as needed. Infection Prevention Oversee infection control practices within the facility. Ensure compliance with infection prevention policies and reporting requirements. Coordination of Care Collaborate with physicians, therapists, pharmacy providers, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings. Ensure effective communication between nursing staff, residents, and families. Administrative Responsibilities Manage the nursing department budget and supply utilization. Maintain accurate and complete nursing documentation. Ensure proper maintenance of clinical records. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of long-term care regulations and standards. Strong leadership and staff management abilities. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds as required. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Working Conditions Works in a healthcare environment with exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids. May be required to work beyond normal hours during emergencies or staffing shortages. Performance Expectations Maintain regulatory compliance. Promote a positive work environment. Ensure resident safety and satisfaction. Support facility quality measures and clinical outcomes.
