Assisted Living Director of Nursing (LPN or RN) Job Description Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (LPN or RN) to lead and support our care team within an assisted living setting. This leadership role requires a dependable, self-directed professional who can operate independently while driving consistent, positive clinical outcomes. The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing nursing services, ensuring high standards of resident care, and maintaining regulatory compliance across varying levels of need, including assisted living, memory care, hospice, and home health collaboration. The ideal candidate leads by example, demonstrates sound clinical judgment, and fosters a supportive, team-oriented culture grounded in accountability and excellence. Key Responsibilities Provide clinical leadership and oversight of the nursing team to ensure high-quality, person-centered care. Direct daily nursing operations, including staffing, supervision, training, and performance management. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Complete and oversee pre-admission, admission, quarterly, and ongoing resident assessments. Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with residents, providers, and the interdisciplinary team (IDT). Monitor resident conditions and adjust interventions and care plans as appropriate. Oversee medication systems, including receipt, documentation, administration, and discontinuation practices. Provide clinical guidance related to acute care, hospice coordination, and home health services as applicable. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation and resident records. Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, case managers, and external healthcare professionals. Lead quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. Ensure staff understanding and adherence to facility policies, procedures, and clinical standards. Schedule and supervise nursing staff with support from designated leadership personnel. Fulfill Nurse Delegator responsibilities if licensed as an RN, in accordance with Washington State requirements. Serve as the primary clinical resource for nursing-related concerns and provide hands-on support when needed. Perform additional duties as assigned to support resident care and operational needs. Minimum Qualifications Current, active, and unencumbered LPN or RN license in the State of Washington. Nursing experience in assisted living, long-term care, memory care, hospice, home health, or acute care settings. Experience supporting residents with dementia and behavioral health needs preferred. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and team development experience. Strong knowledge of HIPAA and resident confidentiality standards. Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment. Sound clinical judgment and ability to manage complex resident care situations. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation review and interdisciplinary collaboration. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare documentation systems. Experience with quality improvement processes and staff training initiatives. Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the Administrator and leadership team. Successful completion of a criminal background check. Certifications in nursing leadership or administration preferred. Work Schedule This is a full-time, salaried position, generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM•5:00 PM , with flexibility based on community needs. The Director of Nursing serves as the primary clinical leader and point of contact for the nursing department. The Director of Nursing ensures residents receive compassionate, safe, and well-coordinated care while cultivating a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement among staff.
