To Be Determined Job Description The Newburyport Public Schools is seeking an experienced leader to make a difference in the lives of children and staff daily. As a member of the District Leadership team, the Director of Nursing has the opportunity to listen to the needs of school and community leadership and design public/school health strategies to meet those needs. Newburyport is looking for a nursing leader to enhance and develop the health and wellness systems and processes currently in place and in the future.JOB GOALS
The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for supervising and implementing the provisions of the Nursing Services Department of the Newburyport Public Schools in accordance with State and Federal regulations and mandates. On a day-to-day basis the Director will work with the educational leaders and school nurses of the Newburyport Public Schools to assure that the health needs of all students are met. The Director will also work closely with the Medical Director who services as a consultant as well as other healthcare professionals and community agencies that the district utilizes to support health and wellness.QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated knowledge and competencies in the administration of school health programs and services Ability to perform a population based needs assessment and design policies, programs, curricula, and/or systems to meet those needs
- Experience managing CSHS grant, including managing budgets and preparing state reports
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to the Superintendent of Schools, School Committee, staff, students, other administrators, and parents
- Ability to work independently and carry out assigned projects to their completion
- Ability to prepare and administer a budget in a cost-effective manner.
- Ability to apply technology to meet the needs and duties as outlined in the job description.
- Managerial and leadership skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.)- Participates in the recruitment and selection of school nurses.
- Supervises and evaluates school nurses.
- Supervises and coordinates health service programs for students in compliance with statutes and regulations.
- Collaborates with public and private agencies, organizations, and professional personnel in securing and providing school health services for students.
- Prepares and/or reviews all local, state and federal reports on health/medical issues.
- Interprets the philosophy and practices of the health services department for parents, administrators, staff and the public.
- Provides consultation and advice to administrators to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
- Participates in the planning and equipping of health suites in the schools.
- Exhibits and facilitates human relations and communication skills.
- Provides staff leadership, development and training.
- Manages the Health Services budget as well as the Comprehensive School Health Services grant budget.
- Demonstrates professional growth and self-improvement.
- Develops and fosters positive school and community relationships.
- Communicates in a timely and effective manner with staff, administrators and parents.
- Provides support and resources to the nurses to maintain student health records. Knowledge of the SNAP software program is a plus.
- Complies and interprets statistics for the student population.
- Supervises the nurses to ensure all students are properly immunized and that all newly enrolled students meet MDPH requirements for school admission.
- Prepares, implements and oversees various grant funded activities.
- Promotes staff wellness activities and services.
- Performs other responsibilities the Superintendent of Schools may assign.
- Works directly with Massachusetts DPH Evaluation Task Force and School Health Unit.
- Provides training on district protocols relative to student records, and other health related matters.
- Responsible for district protocol relative to student health records/immunizations.
