OUR DIRECTOR OF NURSING
(DON)
POSITION
The primary function of the Director of Nursing (DON) is to oversee, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures. The DON ensures the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained while promoting a positive work environment, staff development, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. Job Duties of the Director of Nursing (DON): Plans, organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates all nursing services within the facility. Ensures nursing care is delivered in accordance with physician orders, resident care plans, and regulatory standards. Oversees clinical operations, infection prevention, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives. Maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care operations. Leads and supports the nursing management team, including ADONs, Unit Managers, RNs, LPNs, and Nursing Assistants. Oversees staffing, scheduling, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and disciplinary processes for nursing staff. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective resident care. Conducts regular resident rounds and audits to ensure quality outcomes and resident satisfaction. Collaborates with physicians, department heads, residents, and families to promote continuity of care. Oversees employee education, competency validation, and ongoing clinical training programs. Monitors nursing budgets, supplies, and resource utilization to support operational efficiency. Participates in survey readiness activities and leads the facility through state and federal inspections. Maintains confidentiality of resident, employee, and facility information. Demonstrates professionalism, leadership, accountability, and teamwork at all times.

Qualifications - Director of Nursing (DON): Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership experience in a long-term care setting preferred. Prior Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of state and federal long-term care regulations. Current CPR certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands include the ability to walk extensively, sit for extended periods, and bend, lift, and carry up to fifty (50) pounds frequently. Must be able to operate lifting equipment regularly and push and pull carts and/or resident transportation devices. A full list of physical requirements is available upon request.
