Job Description

Director of Compliance - Behavioral Health / Adolescent Residential Treatment MedQuest Search Solutions, Inc., the nation's leading behavioral health executive search firm, is conducting a search for an experienced Director of Compliance for a high-performing adolescent psychiatric residential treatment facility in Greater Richmond, VA. We are partnering with a well-established, quality-driven behavioral health organization to recruit a Director of Compliance for a 100+ bed adolescent psychiatric residential treatment campus. This is a retirement succession opportunity, as the current Director is planning to retire after many successful years in the role. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a compliance professional who thrives in behavioral health settings, understands regulatory complexity, and enjoys partnering with executive leadership to maintain operational excellence and survey readiness. Relocation to Greater Richmond, VA required. This is an onsite leadership role.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the on-site expert for Joint Commission (TJC) standards and Virginia state licensure regulations governing psychiatric residential treatment and behavioral health programs Lead ongoing survey readiness efforts for State and Joint Commission accreditation Oversee facility-wide compliance, risk management, quality and performance improvement initiatives Direct the investigation and resolution of grievances, incidents, and human rights matters in accordance with regulatory requirements Monitor and trend safety events, incident reports, and quality data to identify systemic improvement opportunities Oversee policy review processes and ensure bi-annual updates and regulatory alignment Supervise and mentor compliance team members: 3
FTEs:
(Patient Advocate, Quality Assistant, Privacy Officer/Investigations) Partner with the CEO and executive team on regulatory communication, corrective action plans, and risk mitigation strategies Support optimization of newly implemented EMR compliance and risk tracking tools Participate in Administrator-on-Call rotation Ideal Candidate Profile Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Experience in psychiatric residential treatment facilities or acute inpatient psychiatric hospitals Leadership background in behavioral health compliance, quality, performance improvement (PI), or risk management Successful history of Joint Commission survey preparation and strong outcomes Demonstrated experience with state licensure bodies and regulatory oversight Adolescent behavioral health experience preferred but not required Structured, analytical, and steady leadership style Comfortable engaging directly with executive leadership and regulatory agencies Why This Role Retirement succession opportunity with transition runway Recently completed State survey with exceptional results, moving from annual to biennial survey cycle Successfully completed Joint Commission triennial survey and in strong standing Trauma-informed, quality-oriented clinical culture Stable executive leadership team with strong tenure including a dynamic experienced CEO with a vision who is super passionate about working with adolescent populations Support from corporate compliance leadership within a growth-oriented parent organization Competitive compensation range plus bonus potential Growing flagship facility which is expanding and opening up outpatient services this year This flagship adolescent residential treatment campus is part of a respected behavioral health organization committed to clinical excellence, regulatory integrity, and long-term growth.
