This position requires evening and weekend hours. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Vice President for Student Experience. Plan and implement a student activities program that engages students, encourages student learning and development, and facilitates connections within the HPU community Plan and implement traditional campus events including HPU Fest, Christmas on the Plaza, Spring Sing, Pancake Supper, etc. Coordinate and supervise student activities related to HPU Homecoming festivities Supervise the Student Activities Council and other student committees (Student Planning Committee, Greek Organizations, Christian Association of Student Leaders, Spring Sing, etc.) Supervise student organizations. Provide student organization leader and advisor training on event planning and implementation, budgeting, fundraising, risk management, marketing, and HPU policies, procedures, and resources. Serve as a resource for student organizations and advisors. Facilitate a monthly student organization leader meeting Facilitate Jacket Journey and Daze of Payne, HPU's new student orientation programing. Guide the Student Planning Committee members in leader selection, leader training, and program planning and implementation Engage student volunteers and employees in planning and implementation of events and programs. Facilitate opportunities for student leadership and discovery and utilization of skills and talents Evaluate student activities programs and events. Participate in University assessment activities, institutional effectiveness programs, and strategic planning Administer all budgets related to student activities programs and events Develop and coordinate communication, department publications, and marketing materials including e-mail, website, print, and social media Coordinate, collaborate, and partner with students, staff, faculty, vendors, and community members to facilitate the success of student programming Seek opportunities to engage in professional organizations, activities, and development (association membership, conference attendance, publications, etc.). Remain aware of higher education research, trends, and current events. Represent HPU at conferences and student leadership programs Other duties as assigned (Chapel assistance, committee participation, Student Life events, Jacket Food and Essentials, etc.) Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises student workers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. - Bachelor's degree required. A Master's degree in student development, counseling, or closely related area and a minimum of one year of experience in student activities or other student affairs/development area is preferred. Expertise in the field of Student Development research, theory, and practice is preferred. This is a security sensitive position Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Computer Skills
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent working knowledge of Internet Explorer; Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word; and Desktop Publishing software Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
