The Director of Teen Services will also assist in implementing and managing after school and educational enhancement programs for middle school aged to high school aged members (6th-12th). This position requires an individual with high energy level to develop, administer and operate Teen programs. Must be able to motivate, recruit and communicate well with members, parents, volunteers, and staff. Must have strong organizational principals and possess excellent public relation skills. Person must be creative, assertive, and display strong passion for working with all club members.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience in planning and implementing youth programs.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Valid State Driver's License Duties & Responsibilities Essential Functions 1.
Safety:
The Director of Teen Services provides a program setting that insures the health and safety of members.
  • Members understand and follow standards of conduct in the club.
  • The teen center is safe, well ventilated and well lit with evacuation and emergency procedures posted and first aid kits available.
  • Equipment is in good condition, with safety precautions posted and members instructed in proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Minor maintenance is performed promptly, other necessary repairs are reported for follow-up.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is current.
  • There is an awareness and readiness of steps to take in an emergency.
  • Regular safety checks are scheduled and conducted to identify potential and existing hazards.
  • Staff position themselves to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members, part time staff and volunteers.

Positive Climate:
The Director of Teen Services contributes to the creation of the overall club's climate for youth development.
  • Members are encouraged to participate in a variety of programs and activities.
  • Members regularly seek advice and guidance from staff regarding problems in or out of the club.
  • Members actively participate in keeping the teen center neat and clean, putting away equipment and supplies after use.
  • There is a genuine caring and respect demonstrated between staff and members. Members are greeted by their first name. There is no name calling, labeling or stigmatizing.
  • Recognition of members is evidenced by names, photos and bulletin boards in program areas.
  • Inoperative or broken equipment is removed. Heavily worn materials are repaired or replaced.
  • Behavioral incidents and achievements are recorded and shared appropriately with staff and parents.
  • Staff advocate for the well being of members through open and ongoing communication with parents, school personnel and social service professionals.

Program Planning:
The Director of Teen Services plans programs and services for youth consistent with the Boys & Girls Club of Hawthorne's mission.
  • The Boys & Girls Club Movement's Youth Development Strategy is utilized in planning all programs and activities, enhancing the potential for developing a sense of competence, belonging, usefulness and influence.
  • Objectives are written that are consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Logic models and action plans are completed for all activities. No activities shall be marketed or implemented without the approval of immediate supervisor and Club CEO.
  • There are daily opportunities for individual, organized, small group and large group or drop in activities.
  • The Commitment to Quality assessment process has been completed and an action plan is in place to continually improve the quality of services to members.
  • A schedule is posted which represents the weekly, monthly, and seasonal plans.
  • Programs begin and end on time.
  • National B&GCA Programs are integrated into all program areas.
  • The overall teen program stays within the established budget.
  • Supervise all teen program part time staff.
Manage and track program volunteers and interns. 4.
Marketing Program:
The Director of Teen Services promotes and markets program to members.
  • Activity Schedules are posted and available for parents & members.
  • Timely signs and posters are attractively and prominently displayed and announcements provide information on the daily schedule and upcoming events.
  • Appropriate information is provided for the development of advertising and promotion through flyers, mailings and media.
  • Assist on creating posts for all social media platforms as needed or directed
Teen Program:
Facilitate the planning and implementation of education, character & leadership development, career preparation and recreation programs for youth ages 11-18.
  • Directly supervise after-school programs.
  • Directly supervise summer camp programs.
  • Plan, develop and implement Keystone Club program in accordance with guidelines established by Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
  • Plan recruiting events to attract high school age youth.
  • Identify and establish contacts with schools, agencies and businesses to establish linkages and partnerships.
  • Deliver B&GCA National Programs.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating Youth of the Month & Youth of the Year Programs.
  • Programs have a high degree of community awareness.
  • Collect, maintain and analyze records about program implementation and impact.
  • A progressive recruitment of new members is accomplished annually.
  • Adherence to program reporting procedures and requirements.
  • The Director of Teen Services is personally involved in implementing and carrying out daily programs and activities in one or more core program areas.
Administrative Support:
The Teen Director manages necessary administrative functions and assigned resources.
  • Registration materials are prepared in timely fashion.
  • Records of member participation are kept.
  • Prepares monthly program report.
  • In conjunction with supervisor & administrative office, monitors program payment records.
  • Assures timely information and reports are provided to the CEO/Development office for all grant funded programs.
  • Assigned volunteers, junior staff and part-time staff are trained and contribute to the achievement objectives of both program objectives and overall organizational goals and mission in an enthusiastic manner. Budget Responsibilities
  • Controls expenditures within assigned budget. Relationships

Chief Operating Officer, Program Director, Club staff and members.
    External:
    Community groups, schools, member's parents, volunteers and others as needed.
    ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
    • The majority of work is conducted in a Club setting. Limited travel may be required.

    • Maintain a high energy level.
    • Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day to day activities.
    • Regularly speak clearly and hear the spoken word.
