Exempt Terms of Employment:
12-months (240 days), 7.5 hours per day, usually Monday through Friday. At Will Employee subject to the Students First Act of 2011 and other applicable state and federal laws. Daily work schedule will be determined by the supervisor or his/her designee. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.Salary:

The Director of Virtual School and Education Technology provides strategic leadership, oversight, and compliance management for all district virtual learning programs and instructional technology systems. This role ensures full alignment with Alabama State Department of Education guidelines for virtual schools while advancing innovative, equitable, and high-quality, compliant digital learning opportunities for all students.Minimum Qualifications:
Certification:
Holds current Alabama Instructional Leader Certificate; Master's Degree or higher.Experience:
Minimum of seven (7) years of successful teaching and technology-related leadership experience.Compliance Knowledge:
Deep understanding of Alabama state standards for virtual education and state-mandated testing requirements.Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into instructional strategies for diverse stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications:
Virtual Expertise:
Proven experience in designing, implementing, or managing virtual/hybrid learning environments.Technical Credentials:
Maintains Google for Education and/or Apple Teacher certifications.System Proficiency:
Advanced experience with PowerSchool SIS, PowerTeacher Pro, and Learning Management Systems (Schoology preferred).Essential Duties :
Virtual Learning Program Leadership Oversee district implementation of MPS Virtual Learning courses, CTE pathways, and student support services. Ensure all virtual learning opportunities comply with ALSDE Virtual School Assurances (e.g., enrollment, accreditation, accountability, and graduation requirements). Develop and maintain district virtual learning policies (enrollment, grading, attendance, student conduct, and withdrawal procedures). Ensure virtual courses are delivered during the school day or through approved ALSDE models. Expand equitable access to advanced coursework (AP, electives, CTE) through virtual platforms. Compliance and Accountability Ensure district adherence to all ALSDE policies governing virtual instruction, including: Student eligibility and enrollment requirements State assessment participation Transcript integrity and acceptance of ACCESS-issued grades (if applicable) 504 and IEP compliance Monitor compliance with accreditation requirements for virtual providers. Coordinate submission of ALSDE Virtual School Assurances and related documentation. Ensure all virtual students are enrolled in the local system and meet graduation progression requirements. Instructional Technology Leadership Lead the district's vision for instructional technology integration aligned to curriculum and state standards. Oversee Learning Management Systems (e.g., Schoology used by ACCESS). Evaluate and implement digital tools that support personalized, blended, and virtual learning models. Program Implementation & School Support Ensure each virtual school vendor provides: On-site facilitators for virtual students Structured schedules for virtual coursework Monitoring of student progress and engagement Develop systems for tracking student participation, progress, completion, and graduation in virtual courses/from virtual school. Support implementing effective virtual learning environments and schedules. Student Support & Program Quality Establish systems to monitor student success indicators (attendance, pacing, course completion, college and career readiness, and on-time graduation). Ensure students engage in required daily learning activities (assignments, discussions, assessments). Implement interventions for at-risk virtual learners. Promote digital citizenship, academic integrity, and acceptable use policies. Professional Development & Capacity Building Design and deliver professional learning for: Virtual facilitators (if applicable) Counselor(s), special education teacher, or support staff for online learners Ensure facilitators are trained in online instruction methodologies and technical systems. Collaborate with ALSDE for ongoing training and updates.Key Performance Indicators Domain I:
Student Academic and State Report Card Indicator Performance Objective 1: The performance of the Director of Virtual Programs and Educational Technology will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee based on the successful administration, oversight, and impact of the district's virtual learning initiatives and instructional technology systems, as measured by the following minimum key performance indicators: Student Achievement and Academic Growth (System-Level Impact) As applicable to all schools, collaborate with district departments or leaders to: Increase overallMPS ALSDE
Report Card grade by 3%-5% annually. Increase ELA, Math, and Science proficiency by 3%-5%. Increase academic achievement and academic growth by 3%-5%, as measured by district and state assessments. Increase graduation rate by 2%-19%. Ensure all high school students meet the College and Career Readiness (CCR) benchmark by 100% annually. Increase the number of students participating in dual enrollment by 3%-5%.Domain II:
Program Leadership & Strategic Implementation Performance Objective 2: Ensure effective planning, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of virtual school and educational technology.Key Performance Indicators:
Ensure enrollment exceeds 250 students annually 100% compliance with ALSDE Virtual School Assurances and/or accreditation guidelines for virtual school vendor Accurate enrollment, daily attendance, and transcript reporting for virtual students Ensure facilitator support for all virtual school students Equitable access to virtual coursework across all schools Monitoring and documentation of student progress, including 504 or IEP goalsEvidence Sources:
Program review documentation, strategic plan dashboards, enrollment reports, and quarterly reports.Domain III:
Curriculum Alignment & Academic Effectiveness Performance Objective 3: Ensure magnet and virtual programs are aligned with district curriculum and Alabama State Department requirements while improving student outcomes.Key Performance Indicators:
100% documented alignment with district curriculum and Alabama State Department of Education standards. Biannual documented curriculum alignment meetings with the virtual school vendor or provider. Year-over-year increase in student proficiency rates aligned to district and state report card indicators or targets. Quarterly data review reports completed for the virtual school program. 100% of identified underperforming programs implement improvement plans within 30 days.Evidence Sources:
Curriculum audits, meeting agendas/minutes, student performance data reports, and improvement plans.Domain IV:
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Performance Objective 4: Promote cross-departmental alignment, stakeholder communication, and community engagement.Key Performance Indicators:
Quarterly coordination meetings with district leadership and department heads. Public release of application timelines and program updates by established deadlines. At least 2 informational meetings annually.. 85% or higher stakeholder satisfaction rate. Increase in student application submissions by 10% annually (where capacity allows).Evidence Sources:
Meeting agendas/minutes, communication archives, event sign-in sheets, survey data, and application reports.Evaluation:
