The Budtender/Sales Associate is a key customer-facing role responsible for delivering exceptional service, product knowledge, and compliance within the dispensary. This position is cross-functional, supporting retail sales, reception, inventory handling, and both front-of-house and back-of-house duties. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service & Sales (Front-of-House): Greet customers upon entry and provide a welcoming, professional experience. Verify identification and ensure customers meet legal purchasing age per NJCRC regulations. Educate customers on cannabis products including flower, concentrates, edibles, tinctures, topicals, and accessories. Guide customers through the buying process by assessing needs, providing tailored recommendations, and answering questions. Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system to accurately process transactions, apply discounts, and issue receipts. Upsell and cross-sell complementary products and promote in-store promotions and brand activations. Ensure proper compliance protocols are followed at every stage of the customer interaction.Reception Duties:
Monitor and manage customer check-in and queueing system. Maintain the waiting area to ensure a clean, calm, and efficient customer flow. Assist with intake, including scanning IDs, managing pre-orders, and verifying order details for pickup customers. Inventory & Compliance (Back-of-House Support): Assist with receiving, counting, and stocking new inventory in accordance with internal SOPs and NJCRC compliance regulations. Restock sales floor and secure storage as needed throughout the shift. Perform daily and weekly inventory counts (cycle counts, spot checks) to ensure accuracy and prevent discrepancies. Support packaging and labeling tasks per product category and METRC tracking requirements. Identify and report any issues related to product quality, labeling, or packaging compliance.Operational Support:
Maintain cleanliness and organization of both FOH and BOH workspaces. Follow opening, mid-shift, and closing procedures including POS setup, drawers, and reconciling daily sales reports. Support loss prevention efforts by following store security protocols and reporting any suspicious activity. Participate in team huddles, compliance trainings, and staff meetings as required. Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support day-to-day operations.Qualifications:
Must be 21 years or older with the ability to pass background checks per NJCRC requirements. High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred. 1-2 years of retail, hospitality, or customer service experience; cannabis retail experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of cannabis products, strains, and delivery methods preferred (training provided). Comfort working in a regulated environment and following strict protocols. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on store needs. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 25 lbs, and repeated use of hands for scanning, packaging, or typing.Work Environment & Schedule:
The position requires on-site presence at the dispensary. Schedules will vary weekly; flexibility is required for shift coverage and peak sales periods.
