Full-time Description:

SUMMARY :

The Dispensing Optician is responsible for providing patients with professional service by evaluating prescriptions and making appropriate recommendations to serve the patient's visual requirements.

POSITION DUTIES A.

Assist and/or advise patients with personal frame and lens selection. B. Verify Vision Insurance eligibility, if eligible, create claim for payment. C. Place eyeglass order in computerized system to be sent to lab for processing. D. Ensure that the patient is notified when their eyeglasses are available and if necessary, place in the mail. E. Assist in the maintenance of optical frame stock and accessories. F. Provide support in adjusting and repairing patient eyeglasses. G. Field and follow up on telephone calls from patients with inquiries about eyeglasses. H. Ensure that any defective stock is returned to the Inventory Manager for credit. I. Troubleshoot eyeglass problems including verifying Rx for accuracy with lensometer. J. Assist in the upkeep of the waiting room. K. Assist in other departments as needed. L. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS A.

Work directly with Ophthalmologists and Optometrists to ensure ease of patient flow and excellent patient care. D. Integrity — Job requires being honest and ethical. E. Leadership — Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction. H. High School diploma or equivalent I. American Board of Opticianry Certification (preferred) J. At least two years training experience as a Certified Optician or equivalent. Proficient in basic math skills. K. Ability to work with the public. L. Capable of troubleshooting. M. Possess excellent telephone manner. N. Deliver a high level of customer service. O. Ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion with a high degree of accuracy. P. Excellent organizational skills .

II. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS A.

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching outward, reaching above shoulder, squatting or kneeling, bending. Frequent lifting of 10 pounds or less, occasional lifting of 11-50 pounds. Frequent pushing or pulling of 12 pounds or less, occasional pushing or pulling of 13-100 pounds. B. Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception) C. Sense of sound (normal range of hearing) D. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (gloves, face mask, eye shield, gown)
